Search: Help me understand

The search on the left searches just my journals for <Mark 15:37-38>. It gets me 134 results in 89 resources

The search on the right searches all resources using the label journal article and <Mark 15:37-38>. It gets me 39 results in 29 resources.

The search on the left not only gets more results, but also more and varied resources other than just journals even though I specified only type journal to search. (you can't see them because I scrolled down),

The one on the right, I suppose, searched only journals because of the journal label tag, But why fewer journals in the result than the one on the left?

Also why does it seem randomly to show cloud hits and sometimes not? notice the bottom of the panel on each side.

I'm still trying to understand how to search so please be patient and thank you for comments and advice.

The Journal/INTERSECTS will screen out references that are not within a journal article - the most obvious example being the table of contents.

Thank you MJ for your response.

First, I apologize for not being able to click my screen shot so you can see it in a full or zoom screen, I don't know how to do that. I used snipit and the paperclip. Would Amber make a difference?

Ok, back to my original questions. I understand (I think) what you are telling me, but why wouldn't the journal tag pick up all the resources of the other search? They all have Bible references within an article?

The problem is that your screenshot is very low quality. My guess is that you need to change settings in "snippet." However, see this website:

Thanks for the link JT. That is how I captured the screenshot I used. Couldn't find a resolution setting in the tool. The resolution in Windows is 3840x2160

First, I don't know that all type:journal resources have been tagged with {Label Journal} but I do know that not all text in type:journal is included in {Label Journal}. I would have to check an entry or two that appears in one list but not the other. My personal library is shy on journals so I've not tried to replicate your results.

Got it. Thanks for explaining! I'm still trying to understand just what labels are and how they function.

I'm still trying to understand just what labels are and how they function.

That takes a while. To understand them, first forget the attributes. Just think of blocks of texts that are labeled sermon, personal letter, journal article. Labels simply identify what sort of thing that block of text is ... and never assume that all letters or all sermons or all ... have gotten tagged by FL. Once you firmly understand that blocks of text are identified as a type of text, then think of additional information useful to you having been captured for you ... who the letter is to, who the letter is from, when it was written, its major topic ...Letters are one of the best examples because the additional information (attributes) is fairly obvious. Once you are comfortable with letters and sermons ... think of expanding the concept to smaller and smaller pieces of text... down to single events like miracles, theophanies ...it becomes harder to judge the boundaries and attributes but keep going back to a letter when you get confused. How are they used? Simply put - you can search for a label and specify the additional data (attributes) that you want to screen by. Think letter from Martin Luther ...

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Wow! This is a tremendous help. Thank you MJ, for taking the time to unpack it for me.
