Sermon Editor in Logos 9 going SLOW

Hi users, I'm hoping for some help. When my sermons get to 3000-4000 words, the keystrokes go extremely slow, both in the desktop app and the webapp from a macbook pro. I just upgraded from a macbook air to the 14" pro to deal with it.

Anyone know why that's the case? It didn't used to happen to me till a couple months ago. I use the Sermon Manager for all my sermons, so I really don't want to change my method.

Hi Devin - and welcome to the forums

This does seem to be a problem with large sermon documents - see https://community.logos.com/forums/p/205209/1193849.aspx#1193849 for a comment from one of the Faithlife team

I'm not aware of a solution to this yet

Putting this here though I replied in the beta forum:

I have the PC Desktop version of logos and I start experiencing lag week after week around 2500 words.  I literally can type a full sentence and wait then the entire sentence shows up.  It's gotten really bad lately.  It wasn't like this before.  I have over 200 sermons composed in the editor all sermons around 3400 - 3800 words each. It has not been until recently that it's gotten this bad.

It is very frustrating. It is doing a major lag on both PC and MAC, I have both. If it were not for the fact that you can insert verses so easily, I would have already discontinued using the sermon editor. I am not sure why we "update" things and break things that have worked.

Thanks for the input on this.  We had that on our roadmap of things to do but we will move this even higher up the priority list so that it gets addressed very soon.

Thank you, Austin, for responding and attending to this.  I pray the team programs a fix soon.

    Thank you, Austin.

My current document (in sermon builder) is only at 1,301 words, and I'm seeing lag. (I can type a whole word, then wait and watch for it to appear.)

This is new for me - it wasn't happening even a month or so ago.

Thank you for all the behind-the-scenes work on this.

    Maria,

Just to confirm, this 1,300 word document that you're experiencing the lag on is within the desktop app?  If so, can you please share with me if you're on Windows/Mac and also what version number of the program you are on?

We are beginning work on this so having this extra info will help our investigation.

    Thanks!

I am having all sorts of lag problems that I think have nothing to do with Logos. There are reports of some Windows driver issues, and my cellular wifi provider is "upgrading" but in reality that means removing a lot of the 4G towers.

This has been fixed in 9.12.

Creí que era el único que tenía ese problema, pero ya veo que hay mas casos, el problema es que es algo nuevo, antes funcionaba muy bien, pero parece que en la actualización a 9.12 se corrigió.

Sadly I'm still experiencing this on my Windows PC.
    I'm using Logos 10 (23.2.35).

It's incredibly frustrating, even whilst scrolling through sermons it often freezes. Then I need to close the sermon and open it again... and sometimes it works a bit better for a while then, but most of the time it freezes again shortly. It keeps me from making final edits to my sermon for tomorrow morning, and these software bugs are the last things I need when being short on time 😬. For the sermon builder, it's sadly really not "doing ministry withouth the busywork" 😔.

Anyways, wanted to let you guys know that at least with my software setup, it's not fixed yet (I've experienced it before and then didn't use I for a while in between... now I remember why).
As this mainly is a text editor, I guess the problem is somewhere in its setup (maybe the way it updates & syncs?)
Task manger shows me that my CPU is barely used and there's tons of free space in my RAM still. All other books & tools of Logos don't experience this lag. It feels like sermon builder was assigned a (very small) limit of allowed RAM usage & as soon as a too many words etc. are loaded & this temporary storage is filled, it doesn't know what to do anymore and freezes.
I guess that's not what happens, but describes best how I experience it. Maybe this helps for finding the issue.
Thanks so much for taking another look at this & working at it!

Everything else works really well, I really appreciate Logos (good job you guys & thank you!!).

    Hello Niklas,

Maybe others will respond here, and maybe there is a new issue that has has come up with the software, but I just want to let you know, for me, this was fixed a long time ago.

Sermon Builder is working without any lag for me right now, and has been for months, maybe a year.

In fact, not only haven't I had any lag, but after the Logos 10 upgrade, everything, including Sermon Builder and media, started working more quickly.

Of course, there could be a new issue that's happening, completely unrelated to the original post here.

I hope you can get it resolved quickly! (One idea, if you are able, is to try calling Logos tech - maybe it's something simple with a quick fix?)

Maybe this helps for finding the issue.

Reading through the forums, the most common cause of the lag is out of date drivers or acceleration set incorrectly. Some users seem to need acceleration to toggle so that both the input and the videos work efficiently.

Thanks to both of you for such quick responses!
I didn't expect that, thanks for your feedback & help!

I'll definitely take a look at those potential causes!
Right now it works smoother again, maybe it simply doesn't work with slow/no internet (my connection was bad on that day).

Thanks for the help & blessings!

    Niklas,

I'm sorry you've had a rough experience in the past with Sermon Builder's performance.  I am though happy to hear that it sounds like it was working smoother for you.  Please keep me updated if you feel that the performance goes back to being poor and I can connect with you to get some log files.  That way, our development team could look into your specific issue further to see if we can recommend a way to improve this for you.

    Blessings.
