Minimize to Task Tray?

I'm using Logos 9 in Windows 11. My only complaint is that it takes a really long time to load up, even with an SSD. So my question is this: Does anyone know if it's possible to minimize all of Logos to the Task Tray instead of completely closing it, so that it continues running in the background and doesn't take as long to load up?

    Hi JDC

I am sure that it must be. Logos tends to stay open on my Mac from one update to the next.

However we can only meaningfully sympathise if we have just a little more info eg How long is 'really long'?

Would you care to shut down logos restart and post some logs? One of the windows experts might well be able to point to the problem.

    Thanks for your response.

Well, "really long" is relative, and what I consider really long may not be long to others. But from a fresh boot of Windows using an SSD, it took 47 seconds from the time I opened Logos until the time it was usable. I know some people might not consider that really long, but I have another Bible program with most of the same resources, and it takes around 12 seconds to load.

I did notice that after starting and shutting Logos down, it only takes around 11 seconds to open it after it had already been open once. So that's not too bad. It's just the first time loading it that is a little annoying.

But if there is a way to minimize it to the Task Tray instead of closing the app, I'd still be interested to know about it.

Logos can always be minimized to the Windows Taskbar and you can pin it to the taskbar via a right-click of its icon, the same as other applications. You do not have to close Logos, but the first-time startup after restarting Windows is unavoidable. If you upload logs we can have a better idea of why it takes so long (use the paperclip icon)..

Sorry for the confusion. I was hoping to be able to minimize to the Task Tray, not the Taskbar. Some apps do that so they don't appear to be open, even though they're still running in the background. And you can get to them from the Task Tray.

Anyway, I'm uploading my log files. If anyone sees anything off, I really do appreciate the help!

I compared first startup times to mine

           JDC         Dave
    Start time 17:53:49 11:10:31
    Startup Window

    8.5s

    4s elapsed

    4s

    3s elapsed

    Main Window

    24.8s

    20.3s elapsed

    9.9s

    9s elapsed

    Finished Startup

    24.5s no layout

    20s elapsed

    12.1s layout loaded

    11.2s elapsed

I calculated the elapsed time from the Start time, and I don't why there is a 4.5s difference to the logged times for yours vs. 0.9s in my case.

The Main Window is a blank one that loads before any layout is loaded. This is the one to compare because you don't have a layout, and mine is loaded at 12.1s.

What type of SSD do you have as mine is on fast PCIe interface, about 5x faster than an SSD on a hard drive SATA interface.

I'm using a laptop that also has a PCIe drive. But 4.5s isn't a huge deal. I appreciate you looking into this, but I doubt if anything can be done about the loading times. To be fair, the layout I have does have 4 panels with several resources in each. So I'm sure that's the biggest part of it.

I actually wasn't expecting anyone to help me load it faster. I was just looking for ways to minimize to the task tray to save on loading subsequent times after the first run. But I don't think anything like that is built into the program. And it does help to learn that it does load a lot faster after it's been run once.

I really appreciate the effort you put into looking at this!

Edit: I just wanted to clarify that by "task tray" I mean either the "system tray" or "notification area" around where the clock is. I'm looking it up, and there may be ways to do it even if the option isn't built into a program.

I'm sorry if I'm missing something, but if the issue is load time, can't you just minimize Logos and go about your business doing other things while Logos sits on the task bar? I leave Logos open continually, only really starting it after a reboot, which is quite rare.

Yeah, I definitely can do that. But for some reason, it has always annoyed me to have a bunch of programs showing as open in the task bar when I'm not using them. It's just a preference thing, and not a big deal. When I have apps running full time in the background, I like it when I can have them sitting out of the way in the notification area where they're not seen until I open that up to get to them. I knew it would be something some people wouldn't understand a need for, and that's ok.

But in case there is anyone else like me out there, I found a 3rd party open source app out there that allows you to minimize any program you want to the notification area. You just have to right-click the minimize button, instead of left clicking it. I haven't tried it out yet, but here's the link if anyone is interested. It's called RBtray.

    http://rbtray.sourceforge.net/

And to be clear, I'd definitely prefer it if Logos would load faster. But I wasn't expecting that to happen, so I was looking to do this as an alternative.

I understand. Thank you for the clarification.

And had you not mentioned it, I was going to suggest an app that puts it in the notification area. I'm glad you found it.

Perhaps you load it manually, but no layout was loaded during startup. Hence loading to a blank window was the point of comparison -- 24.8s vs. 9.9s. shows there is a significant difference in speed. Loading my layout of 14 tabs/panels took an extra 2.2s.

    What is your CPU/memory?

It takes a lot more than an extra 2.2s to load my panels and tabs.

    i5 1035G1, 8GB 3200MHz RAM

I have a i5 11400H, 16GB 3200MHz RAM which is a "high-end 6-core SoC for gaming laptops and mobile workstations." vs. your "mid-range 4-core CPU... designed to power most mid to high-tier ultrabooks". With a 2.7 GHz base speed vs. 1.0 GHz, my laptop can get hot at times whilst yours remains cool.

11th gen vs 10th gen further highlights the difference.

Have you tried Set Use Ngen to Yes for performance optimization during loading? Execute it from GO/Command box and restart Logos. It should take effect from the next restart.

Thank you. I did that, and it did seem to help quite a bit. I also turned off the option to use the internet, which helped even more. From a fresh restart of Windows, it still takes 45 seconds to load Logos. But now, subsequent loads after closing it down the first time only take around 5 seconds, which is great.

    I appreciate your help!

I also turned off the option to use the internet,

You realize that this also stops syncing for file backup and turns off several features, I assume.

Yeah, I understand that. I don't really use the in-program internet features, and I'll make sure to update manually from time to time. If it doesn't work out, it's pretty easy to turn it back on. But for the majority of the time, that extra speed is more beneficial to me.

Just found out the Fuzzy Search doesn't work without the internet, so Use Internet is back on now. Haha
