To Faithlige about Personal Books
Forgive me... my words may show some of my frustration, believe me I don't meant to...And you may know this already....So instead of finding where it's posted and "bumping for attention" I'll post this new post....
But what is happening with Personal Books is kind of a nightmare for us users. Here's what I mean...
1. If a user creates a PB and then finds out he made a mistake in the .docx file... and has to edit and re-compile... then it appears he has to close down PBs and re-start then compile the book. I am thinking I had to actually close Logos and re-start the whole process ... just to re-compile the book.
2. There is no "delete" in PBs... deleting in the PB tool does not work. and when I do delete the a file... and re-build it... and then put the PB into a series.. then when I reference that book from my Bible "Link A" then the old version of the PB comes up... It's as if the file pointers goes to the first book that was compiled and doesn't recognize later versions of the same book. Which may because the file was not actually deleted.
3. It seems that no matter how many times I delete the bad PBs off my C:\ drive... and I create a "Link A" with my Bible... the bad files keep showing up. It's like when I re-start Logos... those bad PBs are re-downloaded again.... and no - I did not upload them.
Having said all that... is there any way to actually get rid of the bad PBs to where I can compile them again and work with the re-edited .docx file?
To give illustration of what I mean ... .notice the print file.... Notice the A with background orange one it. I have deleted that file (which is located 3 different places on my hard drive).... and if I search my hard drive then the file does not show up now.... so how can it show up in Logos after I shutdown Logos and re-start it???

I create a large number of personal books for short-term use ... mainly handout images for display to Bible study groups. Seemingly, I have avoided an accumulation of old books, by the following method:
1. Rename an old unused personal book.
2. Delete all old file references under that old name.
3. Add the new file(s)
4. Edit all references to the new content
5. Build Book.
6. Export to my other computer.
This sequence looks to solve the problem, because I can't find any old books. I believe this looks (to Logos) like a simple modification of the old book.

Thanks Don....In the future I will try to do this... but for now... I'm trying to get out of the mess I created for myself. Ug!
And, if you didn't physically go in with file explorer and delete the old books... then they are most likely on your hard disk. Deleting them in the PB tool does not seem to actually delete them... just hides them I think, from the PB tool. And "I think" the file pointer get messed up because of this.

Try this ...
Under your long list of personal books in the Personal Books Tool area,
1. change the name to a generic "Empty 999', delete each "Body File" reference which made up your old book. (You may need to add a dummy/empty file to force a recompile.)
2. Recompile the personal book.
This should replace any old/bad references WITHIN Logos, whether or not you delete the Logos-compiled books via File Explorer.

Deleting them in the PB tool does not seem to actually delete them... just hides them I think, from the PB tool.
Hide those you want to delete from your HD from the library, if they are still there after the PB project in the tool is deleted.

FL has made it clear that the tool has not turned out to be used how they intended it to be. [They intended it to be used for genuinely user created content... but the vast majority of the content comes from things like public domain works, etc.] For that reason, I doubt they will give too much consideration to improvements.

That file exists in your \Resources folder at %localappdata%\Logos\Data\random-id\ResourceManager. It is not removed by deleting the .docx file(s) that appear to be located in 3 different places on your hard drive. It looks like you recompiled another PB with the same title ("Zerr Commentary - James").
To remove the "bad file":
- click on its panel menu and select Information.
- scroll down to the bottom
- under SUPPORT INFORMATION you will see its file name e.g. de78698e84fa404fa9d30d9c2ea14987.lbspbb
- delete that file from your \Resource folder after exiting Logos
The docx files should be kept in one convenient location. When you delete a PB from the PB tool it should remove the file in your \Resources folder, but it does not delete the docx files.

Yes, they have tried to fix this problem but too often we have to quit LOGOS and restart it to rebuild.

What I do is have a DOCX file called “dummyPBB.docx” with the contents of “NOT USED FILE”
Then when I want to get rid of a PBB I EDIT the PBB
I change the title to 0DUMMYxxx. Where xxx is the next number of all 0DUMMYxxx books.
I change the document used to "dummyPBB.docx"
Then I compile the PBB - The old PBB is GONE. I do have one more 0DUMMYxxx book that reads "NOT USED FILE”
The megadata now points to 0DUMMYxxx
Then when I want to create a new PBB I find the last 0DUMMYxxx PBB in my library and us it for the new PBB. By changing the name to a real name and using the real DOCX file and compile. The new book is in my library!
When I list all my PBB files I see: 0DUMMY000 0DUMMY001 0DUMMY002 etc.
Also while working with a PBB I use a Book name starting with 00 So that it sorts to the top of the list. Then do one more compile with out the 00.

Thanks all. I appreciate all the help.
Update: I have deleted all my PBBs from anywhere on my pc and from the Library. I will start fresh.I didn't have that many as I was slow to get into it. I didn't at first see the benefit of PBB.
Things I have learned:
1. Do not re-compile a book without closing down Logos and re-starting Logos, then re-compile.

3. The delete in PB tool does not delete actual files on hard disk.
4. I have a personal cloud and back up to it every 3 hours. I have to remember to delete the pbb off that disk also, when I delete a file.
Years ago, there was something called "spaghetti code" meaning that the code read like it was spaghetti and worked the same way. Sometimes it was quicker to solve the problem the spaghetti code created to just delete and write anew. I have come to the conclusion, that PBB may be spaghetti code... [8-|]

1. Do not re-compile a book without closing down Logos and re-starting Logos, then re-compile.
- that is commendable, but wait until you get the error that says you can't compile.
2. Try, as best I can, to edit the.docx file and compile only one time.
- that is not realistic as you will make mistakes and a big project is best done in stages.
3. The delete in PB tool does not delete actual files on hard disk.
- Wrong! It should delete the file in your Resources folder so you don't see it in Library
4. I have a personal cloud and back up to it every 3 hours. I have to remember to delete the pbb off that disk also, when I delete a file.
- a better backup can "clone" the source and automatically do that for you.

It has been a known issue for quite some time (years) that if you use the upload feature for a PBB then you no longer have the ability to delete it.3. The delete in PB tool does not delete actual files on hard disk.
- Wrong! It should delete the file in your Resources folder so you don't see it in Library
