Layouts often not saving, and now never restoring to the last used layout
Hi, for some months now I have found layouts not working properly (they have always intermittently had this problem). When I launch Logos it always goes to a layout that I had several months ago (I know this because the floating panel with resources on Revelation was from when I preached on that over several months ago). I have to go into layouts and select a layout that I want, which is generally the same layout which it ticked as active. Even then, it sometimes puts the old layout up despite having updated the active layout the day before. Although most often it puts up the most recent saved version of the layout after I click it to select it after the wrong one has been displayed. Is this normal? Is there a fix or workaround for it? Does anyone else have the same problem? And suggestions would be gratefully received. Thanks

This is what you need in Settings to avoid that:
Note that your layouts must have a name, so that the active one is saved when you exit Logos.
But ensure you save the active (named) layout before you switch layouts in a session.

You have possibly specified the old layout in the program settings
Hi Kevin, thanks for that suggestion. I have that setting set to "Most recent layout - local".

Hi Dane, yes I have the "Most recent layout - local " selected all the time. And if I make any changes to the layout and want them saved for future use, I click "Update active" long before shutting down Logos.
I very rarely switch layouts, due to the length of time it takes my ten year old PC to do so, and also because the floating windows don't all go into the correct positions on the monitors when a new layout is selected. If they are not full screen sized windows I then need to snap them to the left or right to avoid having them always floating in the middle of the screen, although the floating position is remembered each time the layout is recalled. While those aren't big issues, they just make it less productive to change layouts frequently.

OK, you have the correct Setting for layouts when you Start Logos. When you exit Logos the active layout is saved as Application Closed and restored with the correct name when you restart Logos:-
I know that my active layout (ticked) was last restored from the first Application Closed layout about 3 days ago whilst the last update for the named layout is considerably older and not shown here. So I'm not going to select the layout that is ticked when I know the two Application Closed layouts are more recent.
If Logos crashes during startup be aware that it will not restart from the recent Application Closed as that could be faulty, so it selects the next one.
Does this help explain what is happening?

That's helpful to know.
So I'm not going to select the layout that is ticked when I know the two Application Closed layouts are more recent.
There is a long list of Snapshots, Application Closed and updates to the named layout. Any one of those (even second, third, etc.) on the list would be good. But it goes back to one from the middle of last year, while still having the latest one ticked, which I just saved a few weeks ago. It is strange.
It looks like the best thing to do is what Dave mentioned, to contact customer services.
Thanks for your help.

A Snapshot is created when you switch layouts. They could represent any layout unless you remember the sequence of switches.
I would delete all Snapshots, all but the most recent Application Closed and updates to named layouts, and see how it affects your issue.

That may not have been clear:
- delete all Snapshots
- delete all but the two most recent Application Closed
- delete all updates to named layouts but keep one of each layout that you need.

Hi Dave, thanks for your suggestions
I honestly haven't had time to ring customer services yet. The time zone difference doesn't help (I'm in Ireland), it's been a busy week and other things have had higher priority.
I've deleted all the layout snapshots etc. that you have suggested, and I'll see how that goes. If that doesn't improve I'll maybe delete a few older layouts too. I tend to switch layouts infrequently, and then only between a few layouts which are I update occasionally.
As a last resort I'll try customer services.
I'll let you know how it goes in any case. Thanks again for your advice.

I'm in England and find that the time difference works in my favour. :-)
Those kind people in Bellingham don't seem to rise early but they do continue to work late into the evening. I prefer to ring in the evenings. In order to reduce costs I tend to use Skype to make the call.

I think some first century (soon to be Christian's) thought the same thing. Their busyness didn't let up for another 50 days!

Thanks Mike. I get that.My workflow, however, tends to be to do ministry admin and such things earlier in the day, with visitation, meetings and project work afterwards (I might switch that around a bit with circumstances changing soon, though). But again it's by no means a high priority or urgent issue, just one that has eventually spurred me to look for a resolution.

I do too, it's very handy with Skype Credit from here to landlines in the US. [:)]

Update on the original problem of layouts has been resolved. I updated my PC, with fresh installs of Windows, Logos, etc. The layout problem has gone away as a result. It's working much better now.
