Prioritize resources question?
In the Facebook group for Logos/ Faithlife tips and tricks, or whatever it is called, a question was asked by a member about which commentaries people use, anyway someone posted a screenshot of their prioritized resources, and they had the word Bibles above the Bible’s, Commentaries above the commentaries etc. A few of us asked how he did that but he never responded. Any ideas how to do that in the prioritize resources section?

You create a Word file with nothing in it. Call it Blank or something. Use the Word file to create Personal Books using the blank file as the content. Call your new Personal Book ^^Bibles^^ or ==Commentaries== or <<Dictionaries>>. These blank books then can be prioritized and used as Section headers. You can reuse the same blank Word file over and over again.
Kludgy but worth the time to help stay organized.

Not working for me, I get build errors every single time that say build failed in Logos. I created 5 blank files in Word, named each in word =Bibles=, =Commentaries=, =Lexicons=, =Dictionaries=, and =Atlases=. I saved them to my hdd, then opened them in the personal book builder and gave each the same name, but when I clicked build, the build failed for each one. Am I doing something wrong?

Your Word file name probably shouldn’t have special characters. Just use Blank. You don’t need different Word files for each book, just different Book names when you build the book. You will never read this book or even open it so content doesn’t matter. I use the same empty file for all my section divider Personal books.

So don’t even name he word file, or name it Blank.docx?

You can’t have a file without a name. You can have a file without any content. You can name the word document anything you want, but it doesn’t need any content… it can be blank. Name it whatever suits your fancy.
In LOGOS, using the “personal book builder“ tool, you can use the same word document you just created. You have to have at least one .docx file to build a personal book. You can use it over and over. It is the “book” you are creating in the PBB tool which will have the unique name as was described above.

I did that, yet the book build fails every time.

John,
I've been in Logos since well before Personal Books were a thing, so I used a different route (recommended at the time by someone on these forums). I picked a few actual resources that I never used and don't turn up in searches, and simply retitled them for my section headers. Screenshot gives away a few of the re-purposed resources. These might help you get around the PB-build issue.

John, This looks to be frustrating for you. I am willing to work the issue with you off-line if you want to go further. Perhaps a Zoom session and I could screen share how I do it or you could screen share while I watch.
If you are interested I will figure how to make my email address know to you and hopefully avoid the spammers.

John Connell: Wondering if you could do screen capture to do a video tutorial and post it here on the Forums? Then others could also benefit.

That is a great idea. Let me work on that!

I have recreated your problem. Apparently the Blank file can't be totally blank. Put a couple of characters in it, save it and try again. I will upload a video to demonstrate.

Here is my attempt to explain how to create a blank Personal Book that can be used to help organize Prioritized Resources.

We used to have lots of user-contributed tutorials videos in Logos 4 through Logos 8, but nobody has done any since then (at least none that have been added to the wiki), so yours is a welcome addition.

I enjoyed making it. Kind of worked out the kinks. If you have some ideas I will make some videos. Make a list. . .

That was it, thanks! The word document can't be blank, it has to have something in it, so I typed the word blank in it and it builds perfectly!

Thanks everyone for the help, got it working properly now. May God bless all of you!
Would you folks classify dictionaries as dictionaries, or lexicons? Or classify Lexicons as lexicons, or dictionaries?

Rosie,
I have made another video on creating and managing toolbar shortcuts. How do I upload it to the Wiki?

You first need to get editing privileges on the wiki, by joining the Faithlife Group "Logos Wiki Editors" (https://faithlife.com/logos-wiki-editors/). I can't remember if joining that group is all you have to do, or if you also have to wait for an admin to give you privileges.
Then go to https://wiki.logos.com/ and read the Wiki Help page to learn the syntax. It's pretty basic, simpler than HTML even.
Then go to the page you want to edit, in this case Logos 9 Video Tutorials (which is linked from the wiki home page)
Click the Edit tab (upper right) to get into Edit mode, and then edit away using surrounding lines as examples.
Click Save and review to make sure it looks OK and any links you added work. Fix if not.
If you want to eventually be a wiki editor, but all of that is too much work for now, I can add the link for you if you want me to. But since you enjoy making training videos, I'm guessing you will be someone who likes editing the wiki to help explain things to other users. So I'd encourage you to take the plunge now and learn how to do it.

I see you've done it. Great job.
However, I've noticed that the resolution is worse on this one (and the newly uploaded copy of the first one you did) on Amber than it was when it resided in your Google Drive. Did you do something to decrease the resolution, or perhaps that happens automatically when uploading to Amber? Maybe try uploading to YouTube instead, if you still have the original full-resolution versions. I have used Screencast as a hosting site for my Logos videos, but that isn't free like YouTube is.

Thanks Rosie. I switched to One Drive and hope it is better. I am planning to do something on Favorites and Customizing the Passage Guide next. Any suggestions you might have will be welcome. I think my target audience is newer users.

It still looks quite blurry to me. But maybe it's because I am viewing it on a high res large monitor?

Those sound like good ideas.

I'm probably not a good person to make suggestions for various reasons:
1) I'm not a new user, so I can't remember what was hard.
2) I'm actually not using Logos all that much anymore, and only the basics; just for reading/searching, and only occasional exegetical work when I'm preparing a sermon about once a year.
3) I'm not familiar with what videos are already out there and thus what is needed. Faithlife has quite a number of tutorial videos available now (http://logos.com/training), so you don't need to reinvent the wheel. But your personal touch is good; you have a good way of explaining things.

Would you folks classify dictionaries as dictionaries, or lexicons? Or classify Lexicons as lexicons, or dictionaries?
Lexicons are original language dictionaries, so treat them separately (as Lexicons). Treat Encyclopedias as Bible Dictionaries and prioritize modern language dictionaries below them (for words that are not in a Bible dictionary).
