Should I wait for 10???

LOGOS 9 is on sale and so getting that is a good option but does anyone know if LOGOS 10 will be developed to take advantage of Apple Silicon? If it is then waiting might make more sense as that would be a big performance plus as I have an Apple Silicon based MacBook Pro. I know you can upgrade so that's an option should I decide to purchase LOGOS 9. Just hoping someone here in the Forum has an idea if that's something we might see supported with version 10.

Welcome to the forum!

Joe, the software is always free. So, if you get Logos 9, and locked up your credit card, Logos 10 will appear automatically on your Mac approx next Feb (usually about 4 months after its introduction with new packages). Of course, you'd get it free earlier, if you cought a Logos 10 package).

And whatever you buy, you get credit for later ... you don't waste money.

I don't know of anyone hearing Logos 10 will support M1 (I use the MBP). If so, good.

But that should not affect your decision on Logos 9. Each big version, they change the packages ... a nice one on Logos 9 can disappear. So, really the question is whether you found something in Logos 9 that you really like.

I've got Verbum 9; I'm considering a Verbum 8 package ... great price and likely to disappear (they come back later as legasy packages at times and new prices).

As for a native application for the Silicon Apple chips, I don't know. But there are plenty of reviews saying that Logos works very well on the m1 macs through the Rosetta software on the newer macs.

Logos 10 will have different books than Logos 9. I buy a lot of legacy libraries. When Logos 10 is out, I will still be buying Logos 9 libraries and 5, 6, 7, and 8. When I am writing a paper and need a book, I often buy a package that includes the book instead of just the book that I need. I see no benefit to waiting, and maybe a loss.

For clarification: Kathleen is talking about Logos 9/10 “Libraries,” rather than the software (which is free). Note: The libraries offered with Logos 10 will be different than those offered with Logos 9. The collections are always shuffled with things added and removed. That does NOT impact people who purchased the earlier Libraries negatively (you never lose resources). It does impact them positively on future purchases because of “dynamic pricing” (not paying for a book twice). If you purchase NOW, you will receive a discount on Logos 10 packages relative to the common resources in the library you own and the new one you want to buy.

also note: the levels are to be ignored. You can buy L9 Gold and L10 silver, for example.

There is a problem with today's programs and apps upgrades - They all try to use the latest hardware and operating system software.

And that means that your superpowered 4/5 year old machine can not longer run the next upgrade so you need to buy yet another superpowered machine. This happens more on the mobile devices. My top of the line android built in the dark ages, 2015, does not run the current Verbum / Logos mobile apps forcing me to buy a new tablet.

[Yes, the new one runs twice as fast, recharges twice as fast, has twice the battery run time and four times the 'disk space' ]

My top of the line android built in the dark ages, 2015, does not run the current Verbum / Logos mobile apps forcing me to buy a new tablet.

You aren't being forced to do so. You can still run older versions of the app. However, if you want greater longevity, you should switch to an iPad.

Yes, the 'levels' are mainly just more resources in the library. However there are more datasets in the higher levels that add functionality.

In the past the datasets could be bought independent of the library level. That is you could buy bronze library and gold dataset.

[That might not make sense to a first time purchase but might to someone who currently has a large library.]

I'm not quite sure what you meant here. Taken literally (which is what I think you mean), I concur: I have not HEARD (or read) anyone verifying M1 being natively run on L10 (as a "feature" of L10).

However, I assume that it will and will be disappointed if it doesn't. They will have to do so at some point in the L10 life cycle, else drop support for Mac altogether.

As long as the external bits and pieces of code they use are made compatible, I'd <hope> it will be native by day 1. If not, they should provide a road map by that time.

Agree; but MJ's point about FL taking on too many irons in the fire ... I guess we'll have to see. My impression (uninformed) is the future will be more limited development; just filling out this and that.

Absolutely. I think digitized books have the advantage of convenience (reading/searching/studying). But presume you can keep peddling, to support them.

But I learned with both Libby, and later El Seven, that just pulling the PC off the internet (for safety) works fine. I don't particularly need the updates, the datasets, and so forth. I purposely got my new MBP this year for the express purpose of similarly pulling it off the internet a few years from now. It'll house my final Logos, and then I'll give Logos away.

And that's also been true of our car. We used to trade every 3 years. But our latest car was driving like new (and looked like new) 7 years later. We were reluctant to trade but don't trust its batteries. So, we're preparing for a 10 year run this time.

Not so good for manufacturers; not so good for FL. I do notice my darn Paperwhite is still quite happy and talking to Amazon. His buddies too. They don't seem to die very well.

What happens when we "buy" features that are listed with a price of "$0.00"? If we update to a free version of Logos 10, will we still have every feature that did not have a price? Or is Logos free to retire those features and resources? When I pay for a package that includes things listed as "$0.00", I am a bit nervous about my future rights to have access to those things.

We are long haulers on cars. We did just get a new van after 10 years. We were not in the market but there were a few indicators that it might be time. We have kept the old van, but won't be using it for the several long trips (1200+ miles round trip) we take each year.

I used to buy a new computer every couple years but no longer see a need to do so. Phones and tablets are another story. They are "consumables." Consider an iPhone: After 2 years, the battery life has started to diminish quite a bit. For me, the resale value (not trade in!) along with the new features make it worth it. My iPads have a bit longer life, but I cycle them down to my kids.

I'm not sure what you are asking. The engine is (and has been for a long time) free. Faithlife makes money on the sale of resources, some "features," and "data sets" (which drives some of the features).

I still don't know what your question and concerns are but I'll take a stab at it.

There are books you can "buy" for free. Those are permanent licenses and you will own those books just as if you had purchased them for $$$. There are also "free to use" resources for which you don't own a license. Those could be revoked at any time. If you are curious about a resource, you can check the library for the "license" column. Resources will be listed as either "permanent" or "temporary."

Question: Do you recharge to 100% or only to 80%?

Some state that we could double the life of the battery if only charge to 80%.

Note that several times during expected evacuations in Florida some Battery only cars all of a sudden got an extra 200 miles. They received a software update that changed the full charge to 100% when normal was 80%. [As I remembered news items from 3 or 4 years ago]

In Logos Silver, the Counseling Guide is listed as "0.00" and if I click on the feature, it says that it can only be purchased as part of a package. Is access to the counseling guide only for the life of Logos 9? If I buy Logos Silver 9, am I buying the $0.00 counseling guide for future versions of software? Certain features have been retired, right. Is Logos puzzles still available to use in Logos 9?

In the Basic version, there is access to some things that people do not own? There are lots and lots of "$0.00" Lexham and SBL things.

You should wait for sales, but waiting on a new version of Logos doesn't benefit you. Logos 9 is mostly what I imagined Logos would become when I first bought Logos 4. I look forward to improvements, but I consider Logos 9 very mature, useful, and everything I need. Logos 10 is months away and you would deprive yourself of what you can do right now. Go for it.
