I think this was a bug a while ago, but it still is unresolved in 9.6. In order to see the sidebar, I need to try and perfectly line up the mouse so that I can drag and expand it.

Doesn't a click onto the "hamburger" button to the left of the filter/search box expand the sidebar for you? On Windows it does...

If you have opened Library in a floating window, then its borders (not sidebar) are not marked by the solid line that I see in Windows. To expand the window is not an issue for me. So it could be a Mac issue. Is this what you mean?

I think it is a Mac issue. In my OP, the image that you see is a GIF. If you click on it, it will open in a separate browser window and you can see the process I have to go through in order to expand the sidebar.

Clicking the hamburger menu does nothing. The sidebar is collapsed 100% and must be opened manually by clicking and dragging.

    Nifty - I didn't realize!

The sidebar is collapsed 100% and must be opened manually by clicking and dragging.

It seems to be a Mac feature (we Windows users are not allowed to shrink the sidebar to less than 20% of panel width).

Clicking the hamburger menu does nothing.

Have you tried to drag the sidebar out, then when it is visible to disable via the hamburger menu?

This needs to be a Mac feature as well.

then when it is visible to disable via the hamburger menu

Not sure what you mean here. The sidebar constantly resets. So, even if I get it correct, the next time I use it the sidebar is collapsed again.

It gets a bit old when the library is in a floating window on a larger screen. 5% would probably be okay for a minimum size.

then when it is visible to disable via the hamburger menu

Not sure what you mean here. The sidebar constantly resets. So, even if I get it correct, the next time I use it the sidebar is collapsed again.

I was hoping that deactivating it via the hamburger button leads to opening it again in the same position (assuming the application stores the size when deactivating - that again is what the Windows version does). The constant reset to size zero sounds like a bug.

I have this same issue, but can never get the cursor in the right spot to reveal a "resizer". I would really like to have my sidebar revealed, but can't get it open.

Yes, same problem most of the time. Hard to line up the curser in just the right position.

I am on Mac and cannot reproduce this issue. Even if I manually close the sidebar by sliding it into oblivion, the hamburger menu still works.

The devs would need more info:

    1. What is your scaling set to?
    2. What specific version of Logos? macOS?
    3. Logs?

    1. What is your scaling set to?

100% on the Mac and in Logos.

    2. What specific version of Logos? macOS?

    Logos 9.6.0.0024

    Mac M1, macOS 11.4

    3. Logs?

I'll work on this since it doesn't happen every time.

Here's one more consideration: I use Logos on a Dell U4919DW ultra wide (32:9, 5120 x 1440) monitor. Since scaling is frequently mentioned as a possible source for problems, perhaps the way that the monitor renders things could also contribute. Unsure but mentioning just in case.

    Thanks for the response.

1- My scaling is set to 100%; I've tried different scales with no change

    2- I'm running

    Logos Bible Software 9.6 SR-2

    9.6.0.0024

    on macOS Big Sur 11.5.1

Sent my logs and an gif to to support.

When clicking the hamburger, it doesn't behave like a good hamburger by changing color like it does when things are working. It doesn't seem like there is a response to the click.

Is it a MacBook Air? If so, we are using a similar machine. My version of macOS is more up to date, but I don't think that is the issue.

If this is a laptop, what about without the monitor connected? If it is a Mac mini, can you try another monitor?

    It is a MacBook Pro.

I will try another monitor when it happens again. Hasn't happened today yet.

I am on Mac and cannot reproduce this issue.

I am on a Mac as well and likewise cannot reproduce the issue. It doesn't matter whether my Library pane is floating, docked, sidebar opened/closed via dragging or hamburger button, or whatever, I cannot come up with a scenario where the Library sidebar does not open with the hamburger button as expected.

Though this post adds nothing new to help the OP, I "chime in" because, I, for one, would NOT want to see the Library sidebar not be able to close completely on the Mac. Clearly, that behavior is not the cause of the problem, and there are times that I, personally, want the sidebar closed. I appreciate having that option.

I don't think that is in jeopardy. I <think> that what the window users meant is that it cannot be dragged closed. However, the hamburger menu is intended to open/close it. Although it appears that windows users can't "slide it close," all other operations are the same... and on Mac there is a point where it won't slide any more, it just "snaps." So it isn't like you can make it any smaller by sliding. I am unsure if that slide size is equal on windows or not.

I've been receiving tech support from Logos. No resolution yet, I'll need to open from another computer when I get home to see if if the slider will show up, then see if the change syncs globally. Tech support logged into my Mac remotely here and couldn't get it to show up even after several resolution changes etc.

Do you know if you created this layout on another computer? What happens if you create a new layout on this machine from scratch?

The strange thing is, I can slide the side panel all the way closed on Factbook, which has a similar interface. Then I just click the hamburger and the side panel will show back up. Not so on library. Same behavior whether I have am accessing the library via dropdown, full window, or floated panel...hamburger doesn't behave like it is supposed to.

I'm not sure when I collapsed the panel initially (or if I did). The last time I remember using the filter panel for my library was maybe 3 or 4 versions of Logos ago when I prioritized my library.

I've tried a new layout from scratch...the problem persists.

    Thanks JT!

    DARK MODE IS THE CULPRIT!!!

Just grasping at straws after trying to use another computer with no success...I switched from Dark to Light mode, restarted Logos, tried to resize in Light mode, and VOILA! It's fixed. I closed the sidebar, synced, closed Logos, went back to Dark mode and the hamburger behaves normally now. Definitely a bug associated with Dark mode somehow.

    Ah... Thanks for the clarification.

I agree that resizing that sidebar less than 20% serves no purpose. It would seem that allowing it to "disappear" should be reserved as a "hamburger click" function.

Perhaps... but perhaps not. Did you try restarting prior to changing this setting?

I did try restarting prior to changing the setting. The slider appeared with light mode, but not with dark. I took a video of the phenomenon and sent it to support.

Has there by chance been any update on a fix for this bug?

I have had the same problem since moving to Mac in November, and despite attempting all the suggested fixes (dark/light mode, layouts, external vs native display, floating library window vs non, "hamburger" on vs off, carefully trying to drag the corner of the window, etc., etc.), I have not been able to retrieve the Library Sidebar.

    I am on a Macbook Pro (2021; Monterey 12.2.1) running Logos 9.11.

I am able to survive somewhat by using the search fields in the "Find" box (listed here: https://wiki.logos.com/library__). However, I would prefer if this were not the long-term solution.

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

    All the best,
    Tyler

The issue resolved itself on my machine, but I don't believe that was due to any sort of update. The issue is hard to reproduce...but when it's happening on your machine, it happens ALL the time. The fact that several Mac users have this issue demonstrates that it is a real issue. The fact that Logos cannot reproduce it is odd.

    Hi John,

There were some things we recently updated that we are hoping fixed this. If you notice this issue again could you please provide a screen recording so we can see how it is behaving on your end?

Welcome to the forums Savanna. I want to give you a hint from an old IT person -- "hope" is not a word users want to hear. It implies your programmers are so incompetent that they couldn't identify the cause of the problem but made a stab at it from somewhere they knew was kind of related. "believe" provides the same wiggle room without imputing incompetence. As a user that makes me every so much more comfortable with my investment.
