The Message of Sonship

I am currently reading The Message of Sonship: At Home in God’s Household by Trevor J. Burke in preparation for a sermon that I will be preaching in a couple of weeks.
I am finding it extremely interesting and helpful.
From the introduction: "Sonship is a powerful and striking metaphor but it may not be the first expression that springs to mind when thinking of important biblical themes, so perhaps some justification needs to be given for our study. As we do so, it is worth noting that no full-length book has been written on the theme of sonship from the perspective of biblical theology. This book is not a full-blown study of a biblical theology of sonship but has the more modest aim of serving as a brief introduction to an important and overlooked theme in Scripture." Burke, T. J. (2011). The Message of Sonship: At Home in God’s Household (D. Tidball, Ed.; p. 18). Inter-Varsity Press.
Can you suggest any other books to the topic of sonship (being sons and daughters of God) that might be helpful in my study of this topic. Of course there are a number listed in the bibliography but your recommendations will prove helpful to me. Thank you in advance.

Nothing specific as I have not really looked at the topic, but the first thing that came to mind was to look or rather search for "Adoption".

> Can you suggest any other books to the topic of sonship (being sons and daughters of God)...
The Book of John: in 3:16 > sonship refers to "μονογενής" "only begotten." Logos ESV [Seed into ground died]
The Book of Hebrews: in 2:10 > sonship refers to: "bringing many sons to glory, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering." Logos ESV.
The Passover Lamb crucifixion taking place during Unleavened Bread, and Yeshua Jesus raised 3 days and nights later at "First Fruits" indicates that He is the first of many sons.
The Logos Book of Romans 8 says much about sonship... I suggest a thorough search on this topic in "Scripture Himself" -- The WORD is Alive !!
The book I recommend is THE BOOK.

Michael, I am fairly certain that you have searched the scripture for this promised gift from the Father. So, I'm offering this text to remind others of the wondrous grace we have in Christ as documented by Paul in Ephesians. The language here is so strong and the promise so far reaching I would recommend that it be the focus of your message.
Ephesians 1:3–14 (ESV)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, 8 which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight 9 making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ 10 as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.
11 In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, 12 so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. 13 In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, 14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

Thank you David. I agree with all you have said, especially your reference to Hebrews. The entire book is all about "sonship," Jesus' sonship and his example as well as our role as sons of God.

Thank you Beloved for sharing this passage. I am sure that others will be blessed by it as much as I was in reading it again. The entire book of Ephesians is very powerful and full of spiritual treasure.
