History Study
This is a review project for me....I am seeking to put a chronology time line together... which I know is difficult and could easily lead to debates... Which I won't entertain in this thread...
But.. I would like help on putting the history together from 62 AD until 306 AD. Dates being important.
Background.... I know that Jesus said He would build His church... Mat 16:18.. I know also that church existed around 33 AD.. Acts 2:47... And I know the church existed before 100 AD (the letters of Paul). I can go to the Bible and thus prove that.
But ... between 95-100 AD and 305-306 AD... the history of the church is scarse as hen's teeth. And it was during this time period that the church started "splintering" or "branching off"...
Soo... if you can add to the chronology about the church or know of where I might look for such... let me know.

Allow me to complain that this is limited solely to the Western Church and does not mention this limitation in its title.

Let me complain.... it cannot be proven that Peter was ever a pope.... We can prove that Peter had a wife...
But maybe we save that for another thread...??
The theory here is... that the church Jesus built existed before 100 AD... and continued...

You didn't last too long before you began debate (Peter/pope). Everyone else controlled themselves.

Dates are always approximate, especially as regards when an author wrote a specific writing. And some are guesses concerning authorship (eg Clement).

Actually, you know the writer of Matthew (or Acts) reported what Jesus was to have said. The remainder is your beliefs (as Jesus reportedly recommended).
But ... between 95-100 AD and 305-306 AD... the history of the church is scarse as hen's teeth. And it was during this time period that the church started "splintering" or "branching off"...
Actually the period from the mid-2nd-Century through the 4th is pretty well documented, both by authors, and then later Eusebius. And 'fragmentation' implies earlier not-fragmented. But even Paul was struggling with fragmentation.
Soo... if you can add to the chronology about the church or know of where I might look for such... let me know.
Most of the chronology of the early church, is actually the chronology of various bishops. Unless, of course, you're talking the churches of Christ.

Sorry but (a) I don't see anything to prompt this inappropriate response - why are you compelled to bring up Catholic/Orthodox points when I refer to Oriental Orthodox/Church of the East/Nestorianism? (b) Yeah, Peter had a wife. So what? I've never run into anyone who denies that. Your implication misrepresents Catholic/Eastern Orthodox beliefs.
BTW: the term "pope/papa" dates from the 10th century. Prior to then one would look for the term "bishop of Rome" unless, of course, if you are speaking of the Coptic Pope where you would look for the "bishop of Alexandria." [my trivia contribution of the day".

For the life of me, I can't find anything of significance in Church history for 306AD. May I ask why that is your date?

The apostolic and pre-Nicene fathers contain a significant amount of history. It is harder to associate dates with the Christian heresies and Christian gnosticism both of which are major players in the history of the early church.

Timelines are good but they will always have a few subjective elements. I see Revelation being written prior to 70 AD, so Logos’s timeline stating that John saw his vision in Patmos somewhere around 95-96 AD is not something I would use. In fact, based on my research, ALL the books of the NT were written before 70 A.D., but then again, ”someone else’s research” may lead him to believe some books (e.g. Revelation) were written somewhere between 80 AD as far as 100 AD or more.
Who knew history would be so complicated 😂
