Bible Translation that translates proper names and places (proper nouns)?
I would love a translation that literally translated proper nouns (perhaps only in parentheses upon their first occurrence in the text). Usually I have found that knowing some name translations in any particular passage enhances my understanding of the passage in some way. However - I know of no translations whatsoever that attempt to do this for the reader. Instead the reader must look up every name in order to find out it’s original meaning.
But, it really surprises me that no Bible translation has attempted to do this. Wondering if anyone has ever heard of one that does.. and if so if it’s available in Logos..

Looks like a great resource site! Thanks MJ! Now if we could just find a way to get parenthetical definitions added to our Bibles via visual filters…
If you're willing to put in the work, create a custom highlight for each person that adds text before/after.
For Aaron, create the custom highlight that adds the information provided from MJ's resource "(Bright, Accumulation, Center of Cheer)". Create a visual filter that searches <Person Aaron> and apply the custom highlight to that result.
You'd have to create a unique highlight style for each person, but they could all be put in the same visual filter.

It is pretty amazing you can do this in Logos.. however, I definitely don't have the time for something this expansive and tedious..

Also - it’s actually difficult to find dictionaries that do this as well. Often the dictionary article will contain a blurb on the biblical character - but not give the literal translation of the biblical character’s name.
I know of no Bible translation that offers this feature.
Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

I'm surprised FL, with their penchant for listing everything, haven't done name definitions. But even more surprised that both of my name-definition resources are not passage keyed, so one could use a CitedBy panel lookup. How lazy!
And exhausted by today's lunch reading ... Jezebel's name. 'We' wandered through massoretic dirty-boy imagery, punic associations, and on it went. Even managed to dig around Ugarit.
