Is it possible to list commentaries by "ascending" or "descending" dates, and not simply within an era?

You need to submit an additional request to the Feedback site - perhaps by adding a comment to an existing request (as above).

You could tag your commentaries according to date published (date originally published is used for era) and use that to assign them to different collections for use in Passage Guide.  How you prioritise them will then determine the order in which they appear.

I wish Guides --> Bible Reference Guides --> Commentaries .... would pick up Personal Books that we designate as "Commentary".

At least... I can't seem to get it to....  I created a Personal book (a few) and designated them "Type: Commentary"  and they are not picked up.

    Did I do it wrong?

Edit: And it would be a nice feature to have the "Types" of the Commentaries to match the "Types" the Personal Books....

Edit #2:  I re-compiled a Personal Book as a "Study Bible" and it picked it up. Cool beans!

Edit #3: It just doesn't pick up Personal Books compiled as "Commentary"... that I can find.

Edit #4: It doesn't pick up "Author" either....  Looks like only thing "Commentaries" pick up from Personal Books is if they are compiled as "Type: Study Bible"... and "Author".

I hope FL will consider working on this in the future.... [8-|]

    From the wiki - https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books#Resource_type_requirements

    Bible Commentary

    • Has Bible milestones for each passage with a commentary e.g. [[@Bible:Jn 1:9-10]]
    • Headings can include bible milestones e.g. [[@Bible:Jn 1:1-18]] , but check that it doesn’t interfere with locating the actual commentary via the resource Reference box.
    • Commentaries ideally comment on every verse

Does your Personal Book satisfy those requirements (particularly the first one)?

yes. It satisfies all three.     My mistake...  I need to do some work....  shucks!   Thanks.

Edit:  I played around with this a lot today... working with one of my Personal Books (compiled it as different "Type")... and for some reason... the "Commentaries" or "Monograph" or the other selections... would now work with anything the Personal Book was compiled with... except "Study Bible". But when the Personal Book is compiled as "Type: Study Bible" ... then it works.

I "think?" that it is because... the "Types" in Commentaries do not have "Commentary" as a Type... so again... I'm back to the idea... that the "Types" in Commentaries should match the "Types" in compiling a Personal Book. I wonder if this problem could crop in other places????

    IMHO ... [8-|]

No, if you look at your library you will see that the type is "Bible Commentary" -- "Commentary" is for non-Bible commentaries.

Don't mean any offense.....  Either way... Was not talking about my library.... was talking about "Commentaries" as in "Guides --> Bible Reference Guides --> Commentaries" not picking up Personal Books....  It seems "Guides --> Bible Reference Guides --> Commentaries"  only pick up Personal Books that are compiled with "Type: Study Bible" as the "Types" in "Guides --> Bible Reference Guides --> Commentaries" do not have choices like the "Types" in compiling Personal Books does.  The only "Type" that is the same between the two are "Study Bible"....

Strange in that the Commentaries Guide section works with both "Bible Commentary" and "Study Bible" Personal Books for me.

Well...now I'm confused more than I was confused before when I was confused, even when I thought I was not confused - lol.

My problem seems to be... that if I compile a PB with type "commentary" then the "Commentaries Guide" does not pick it up. But if I compile the same PB as "Study Bible" ... then the "Commentaries Guide" does pick it up.

    1. Graham mentioned about milestones and I checked my PBs... and in one book I did have some bad milestones which I corrected. Yet this did not correct my problem (if it is a problem). In fact the PB that I corrected worked if I compile as "Study Bible" before I corrected it ....

    2. I compiled some PB as "Commentary"... then reindexed everything... and waited till it finished... then rebooted Logos.. thinking maybe all that was the issue... .but same results.

    3. I have a layout whereby I have the same PBs in it ... all linked and such.... and it works fine....

    4. I'm ok compiling my PBs as "Study Bible".... I just don't know how that will affect my PBs with the rest of the Logos System.

And I am surely open for suggestions....  and wondering... how did I mess this up?  hmmm [8-|]

That is exactly what is expected. Type:Commentary is NOT for Bible commentaries, as MJ noted above. It is for commentaries on things that are not Bibles. Type:Bible-Commentary is for Bible commentaries. Type:Study-Bible also works.
