Morph Search and words-of-christClosed
I seem to remember being able to perform a morph search on a greek lemma using the filter words-of-christ in the reverse interlinears. It no long works in this beta. I have tried it in all the reverse interlinears with zero results. I have had problems with this before and had to rebuild my index. After the last download I merged indexes. If this is the problem, let me know and I will rebuild the index tonight.

I was able to do such a search. Take a look at my field syntax, just in case that's your problem.
If you can't get this search to work it sounds like a rebuilt index is in your future.

Yes, "[words-of-Christ] lemma:ἀγαπάω" gives me 143 hits in 110 verses.

BUT as I look at the results now it shows results from beyond the gospels.... this is a problem!

Ok, It appears that logos can't process two fields in the same command (words-of-christ:lemma:) Here's a workaround. However, it felt like I was searching in L3 it was so slow!
Check out that search time! At least it worked though (my processor looked like it was indexing while it was searching).

I shaved 40 seconds off the search query by inverting the search terms i.e. listing the definite lemma first. however it still takes a long time.

This is because you are not actually searching the "WOC"....it's not filtering for that!
Do the search again and leave out the part about WOC...it's the same result!
I had asked about this months ago and the word was that the morpology and "WOC" cannot be mixed.....yet.

I know I've posted about this before, but I can't find the original thread right now to link to.
Only the English text has the "words-of-christ" field applied to it; the lemma, morph, Greek, etc. do not inherit this field from the surface text. So with the current indexer, there is no way to (easily) search for a lemma in the words-of-christ field.

Yep, I figured that out (I meant "this is a problem with my approach"); thought that was clear by my "workaround." (as I read this it could sound like I'm jumping down your throat, I'm not)
Do the search again and leave out the part about WOC...it's the same result!

The "words-of-christ:*" search was cumbersome and processor intensive, but it works because it managed to associate the English with the lemma level.
As I've examined the available fields, I've decided that I don't care about these sorts of cross level associations (between English surface and interlinear levels) all that much. The "words of Christ" add no emphasis for me; I leave them turned off (besides there's often debate where a "quote" ends and the narrator picks up with explanation.) So, I'm for leaving the interlinear/indexing architecture alone when it comes to this issue.

It's not one that works in L3 either as the Rev Int has no WOC field!
But I can search in L4 on a WOC range of verses, and there are 51 lemma:ἀγαπάω in the Gospels vs. 63 in total.
Paste the verses into "reference range", call it WOC-Gospels (whatever!), Save it and search on the lemma.

Dave, there's more than one way to solve a problem; thanks for blowing my wildcard search out of the water! [:D] Can't say that I'll ever use it, but it's nice to know about.

You search is more accurate as some verses contain words of christ and words that are not christ, so you will get some spurious hits. It is probably faster than the wildcard search, but lacks some accuracy. Depending on the estimated number of hits, I will use your wildcard method as well.
Has anyone made mention of how easy this is now that we have the Passage List in the Beta?

I was thinking about this but it woudn't work I don't think.
What you'll get:
1.) Verses that contain the WOC
2.) Verses that contain your ref word with morphology requirement.
But what you don't get is a list like this:
Type this: @V AND words of Christ
Result: Get a list of verbs that Christ uttered.
You just get the verses and now you have to go through and find your relevant part of speech.
have I got that right?

What I did was create a Passage List of the WOC shared earlier in this thread. I then did a Morph search for imperative verbs using the WOC PL as the limiting variable. I then created a visual filter with those results so that all imperatives uttered by Christ in the Gospels of the ESV are highlighted with a cross next to it. I haven't had time to explore the results closely, but so far it looks pretty good. I will add to the filter other possible expressions of instruction as I find them.

It's MUCH faster than the wild card search....and it will work for me....so....

I suppose you are right. Passage lists just seemed more appropriate to me and more flexible.

Thanks for the various searching tips guys - I'm learning all kinds of new ways to find stuff.
(Note of course, different translations mark Words-of-Christ in different places. See the NIV footnote on John 3:21 suggesting John 3:16 was NOT spoken by Jesus, but rather by John about Jesus.)
