Sorry but I can't resist. I suggest that the Respond section be added to Factbook pages so that one can report the problem where you find it and the URL is handled automatically. But I am too old and too polite to say "I told you so ..."
We've had a lot of discussion about how to best capture user feedback, but this didn't make it in time for launch. I expect you'll see an improvement here in the near future.
Well, I still share MJ's thought that the feedback section directly in Factbook was a great tool (well, for reporting things, obviously it's a "Fire and Forget" type of feature, like reporting typos, with no loopback. Forum threads might be better for that, but this will be a hurdle most users won't jump over, so not having the direct feedback section will keep issues underreported.)
By chance I saw today that
- Person https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bio.johannlorenzmosheim_1
- Author https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bio.johnlaurencevonmosheim
- and Topic / Person https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25JohannLorenzVonMosheim_Person
are the same and should be merged.
Couldn't an intern in one of your Hack-a-tons write a script that runs through all of Factbook and with some intelligent algorithm ranks possible duplicates for a prioritized "to be checked with EYEBALL-tool"-list? Five entries for John Smith, if there are, are possibly legit (well, maybe a portion of them, and the algorithm may look at works authored or other relevant info), but how many Lutheran church historians named John/Johann L. Mosheim would we expect?
Have joy in the Lord!

I can vouch that I have seen errors and not bothered to report them because posting in the forums is too large a disruption to my workflow/thought process at the time. I do remember seeing a Southern Baptist tagged as Catholic recently and ignoring it ... but I have no idea who it was.

Thanks for pointing these out: we continue working to eliminate duplicates, though the volume of names makes that challenging.

SineNomine said:5. There are a lots of entries with "SJ" as a middle name; they're all wrong. Those are all Jesuits, and SJ is their postnominal. This also occurs with other religious orders/congregations, with postnominals that include "OP" and "OFM", as well as "CP" & "CSB" & "OFS" (one each). Note that sometimes the postnominals in Factbook are "Op" or "Ofs", etc.
I see that "SJ" in particular still has a lot of bad entries. In addition to all of the postnominals given in 5. (other than "CP"), you also need to fix CSJ and CSC.

The duplicates/typos up until #396 have been reviewed and the corresponding actions have been taken care of. Some might already be fixed in the platform and some others will continue to be updated throughout the year.At what point will we be able to be certain that if a particular fix from that list hasn't been made in the Factbook as we see it, it has been missed/omitted/disagreed with? For example, if they still haven't been fixed, when will I know that Faithlife isn't going to fix 2. or 106.?

We've been making some changes in our practices to enable speedier resolution of these merges (and your continued input has been very helpful). While we haven't yet addressed all the issues, we've addressed quite a few, and as far as I know we haven't yet rejected any merges for duplicate people. I'm optimistic that in a month or so all the reported changes will have been addressed and shipped (but that's not a commitment).

"concept" in the Factbook display simply means this is the subject of a dictionary article (or similar content). We're not (yet) modeling this as a group of people, though clearly that's what the concept refers to.
We haven't yet done LCV alignment on the Encyclopedia of Judaism, which seems to be the primary resource in my current library that mentions Beta Israel (under Judaism in Ethiopia). That resource describes quite a few concepts that aren't yet covered by Factbook.

We often lean on Wikipedia for naming conventions. Making "Kyiv" the primary spelling makes sense to me.
On the other hand, i'd never heard of "Czechia" before. A Google search for "Czech Republic" returns about 4.4B hits, while "Czechia" returns only 33M (so 1%). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Name_of_the_Czech_Republic suggests "Czech Republic" is still the official formal name, so I'm not sure about changing it, but we'll look into it.

Quote from that Wikipedia page:
Multinational technology companies that adopted the name Czechia include Google,[48] Apple,[49] and Microsoft with Bing Maps.[50] The business network LinkedIn updated its locations to Czechia in October 2020.[51] Microsoft updated its Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to Czechia in January 2021.[52]
Sean Boisen said:We often lean on Wikipedia for naming conventions. Making "Kyiv" the primary spelling makes sense to me.
Now that is actually more questionable than "Czechia". It's a change of name entirely triggered by recent events. The city was known as "Kiev" to English speakers for centuries... now it's re-named to "Kyiv", which sounds more "Ukrainian". Would that mean we'd have to rename "Rome" to "Roma", which sounds more Italian, "Munich" to "München", which sounds more German, "Dublin" to "Duibhlinn" so not to use the name given by the British invaders, "New Zealand" to "Aotearoa" so not to use the name given by the British invaders? Or do we want to keep the names of locations that English speakers actually know it by?

While we have to find a reasonable compromise between common usage and standards, we don't have to choose a single "right" name as long as we cover the most common ones: so we can include both "Kiev" and "Kyiv", just as we include Peking as an alternate even though our preferred name is Beijing. In general we try to follow existing standards, though i was unaware of "Czechia" before (apparently it became official only 6 years ago).

According to the government of Ukraine, their capital city's name in English is "Kyiv".
According to the government of the country in question, their country's name in English is "Czechia".
That reasoning should be quite sufficient in both cases to make the suggested changes.

The reasoning behind the current renaming of "Kiev" to "Kyiv" in many places is clearly not that of following the official Ukrainian government suggestion. This is happening now because of the Russian invasion, as a statement of solidarity. Otherwise it would have happened with the Ukrainian independence in 1991.
Statements of solidarity are important, but I don't really think that this one is a particularly clever one. The city has been known as "Kiev" since 1804, long before the Soviet Union even existed, and "Kyiv" came into practice only in 2018.
I don't think it's a coincidence that this happened shortly after the annexion of Crimea...
Now a serious question. Let's assume Putin will manage to install a pro-Russian government, which will then advocate to spell the city "Kiev" again. Will you use the same argument again to change the name back to "Kiev" in fact book?

That is irrelevant. Also, it is not a "suggestion".
Jan Krohn said:"Kyiv" came into practice only in 2018.
According to the Wikipedia article you linked to, "Kyiv" was legally mandated as the English transliteration in 1995, not 2018.

Since the Ukrainian government is in no position to legally mandate anything to any company without a businesss location in the country, its a suggestion, and not a legal mandate.
From 1995 to 2018, literally no-one cared.
Since you've not answered my last question, I suspect your motivation is not only about the alleged "legal mandate" either.

No, literally, people did care. I think it's fair to say that more people care now.
Jan Krohn said:Since you've not answered my last question, I suspect your motivation is not only about the alleged "legal mandate" either.
I don't recall having noticed it. Sorry.
If at some point in the future the internationally recognized legal government of Ukraine, whatever sort of government that might be, changes the official English name of the city now called "Kyiv" to "Kiev" or something else entirely, then of course I would support renaming the Factbook article to whatever that name were to be.
I have already articulated my reasoning as to why the article should be renamed "Kyiv" from "Kiev" multiple times; I am done repeating myself on that point in this thread.

No, thank you! It's extremely helpful to have this aggregated list of data issues to address from people who are using the software in a "normal" way. We tend to use it in a much more focused way for editorial purposes, and we don't have the capacity to exhaustively review the mountains of data, so this is invaluable.

452 This one was triggered by Ilian in the German language "Logos Tester -Feedback" group on Faithlife. He found that https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25CountessOfHuntingdonsConnexion is an empty article which could be merged with https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bio.selinahastings_1 - however, this latter one is a nearly empty article, possibly auto-generated as Selina Hastings is listed as co-author of two books from the 18th century.
I suppose to delete both, along with https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25Selina_Person which has only one journal linked, and fix/complete the entry in https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25SelinaHastings_Person or in https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25countessOfHuntingdon (no, I don't think the Countess of Huntington was also called Countess of Selina, here the algorithm went wrong - possibly at a number of other similar entries, too?)

What strikes me is that there is a typo in the first link: a "p" is missing (...SanishArmada). You could then possibly take the second (...SpanishArmada) and add the content of the first.

454. Syrtis = Quicksands. They should be merged: https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25Syrtis_Place & https://ref.ly/logos4/Factbook?ref=bk.%25Quicksands_Place

@Sean Boisen, how many years does it actually take to correct such a reported duplication?

the first one has no content (maybe it can be deleted)
What has and lacks content depends on what is in your Library. The more resources you own, the more content there will be in (your) Factbook as a whole. As such, you (and I) aren't in a position to suggest deleting an article simply because it is empty (but possibly for other reasons, as is evident from earlier posts in this thread).

Yes that's right! The reason for deleting the first entry is rather the typo. The second entry with the same name can then remain.
