Unable to Open Logos on my Windows PC If I Don't Have Internet

Our internet was down this morning, but I expected to at least be able to open my Logos desktop app. Nope. It would NOT open. It kept asking for my password (and it never does that). I entered my password but it still wouldn't open. I finally gave up.

Our internet has gone down WHILE I've been using Logos in the past and I could still read my notes and resources. So am I just stuck until we have internet access?

Oh, and even though this isn't Logos related, while I'm on this, if anyone happens to know how to connect an iPhone personal hotspot to a Windows 10 desktop, then PLEASE let me know. My iPad connects to it just fine but my desktop does not recognize my iPhone (doesn't show my iPhone in my wifi window).

TIA

Did you hold down the CNTL key while you tried to bring Logos up off-line?

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

No, didn't know that trick. When do I hold it down, when I click the icon to open the app or when it's asking for my password?

The internet is back now or I'd try it.

When you click the icon ... and hold it until it comes up and asks for input ... I think it's your password but it may be on/off line

Thanks so much! Thankfully, our internet is fairly stable. But next time it's off, sure is good to know what to do.

Not questioning MJ's points, but at least Verbum/Mac doesn't care, internet on or off (comes up, no matter).

But your other question merits an answer (I'm Mac).

    Anyone?

The fault lies with Logos asking for your password for it then expects to verify it from a server which (of course) is also offline!  I occasionally find that Logos asks for my password (probably ensuring I am the legitimate user!) but I have always been online and not suffered your problem.

I would raise this with Customer Service.

Thanks, Dave. I went on Chat just now, but I didn't walk away with total confidence as Antonio wasn't very clear with his communication. But my hope is that the CTRL key "trick" that M.J. explained and Antonio mentioned will circumvent the need to verify my password and will automatically go to offline mode. I guess I'll see next time my internet is down.

Sharon, I am sorry to hear that you have been having difficulty with this.

You do not have to wait until the next time the Internet is down to see if you can use Logos offline.  You can simply put your computer into airplane mode and then try to use Logos.

The CTRL key "trick" is a workaround that can be useful in certain situations, but you should not have to rely on this repeatedly.

Although I have no way of having full knowledge of your situation, I would usually expect this problem to only occur if either Logos or Windows, or both, are significantly out of date.  I would recommend checking for any available Windows updates for this computer and installing them.

If you have further concerns about this issue, I would recommend phoning Customer Support at 800-875-6467 at your convenience, instead of contacting us by chat or email.

Thanks for the reply, Joe. I did what you suggested and was able to restart Logos by clicking the Use Offline option (I was holding the CTRL key down). Both Logos and Windows update automatically on my desktop so I stay up to date continuously.

I'll keep the Customer Support phone number handy in case I run into issues again in the future. Thanks again.
