Sermon Document Help! (+ Suggestion)

Hello,

I have gone through every sermon building training video, and I still need help. I love the idea of this tool, and for some it is probably very helpful! It seems as though the options for creating sermon slides and notes simultaneously leaves us with VERY little wiggle room to format the content on the slides, and therefore, it isn't actually saving me time/is somewhat useless. I am having to export to Power Point anyways for editing which means that I might as well just use Power Point exclusively without even bothering with making slides in Logos... Also, that means that using the "preach" button feature is essentially not usable for me either in conjunction with the slides.

Here is what I am wanting to do for now... If you know of any way that could help, please let me know. Maybe I am missing it? Otherwise, I hope that Faithlife/Logos will receive this post as a suggestion and update this great tool to be more versatile, intuitive, and useful Smile.

  • In general, more formatting control over the slides would be extremely helpful, such as size/font/color/bullets/emphasis/shapes/etc. Some of those options are there (such as size and font), but they apply to the entire slide text as opposed to the selected text. Sometimes I want my slides to have more than one format to the text. (The options in this little window where I am typing to submit this post would be GREAT!)
  • I would like to include heading text to a slide. Being able to use multiple text formats as mentioned above would allow me to at least manually enter a title/heading on the slides that I want. OR, being able to add "normal" text to a header slide so that both the heading and the normal text coexist on the same slide would be helpful as well. For example, if I use Heading 1 for a main title (Let's say "Kings of Judah") and then Heading 2 for a subtitle "King Zedekiah", I would like the normal text that shows information or scripture or images related to King Zedekiah to have the heading "King Zedekiah" continuously through each slide so that it's clear which king is being talked about.
  • Also, when exporting, if any of the slides have an image, the image itself is stretched out and distorted. I don't see a way to edit the image ratio as it relates to the slide size/ratio. So, every image used in the sermon document is not usable and it is easier to upload to Power Point as opposed to trying to manually fix each one after exporting.

Thanks for your help!

    Rebekah,

These are all great suggestions.  One of the key areas we want to improve the Sermon Builder experience is within the Media tool in how slides interact with the overall sermon building process.  We realize that users should have more direct control over the look and feel of the slides with additional customization options.  We currently have enhancement work scheduled on our roadmap to address this area and your thoughts are very welcome additions and considerations to the plans.

We absolutely want to deliver a tool in where you won't ever have to export it to another program in order to complete the task.  We will aim to deliver that with excellence.

Thanks for your time in writing this out.  It's very helpful to hear this.

  • Hello Austin :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply and for taking my thoughts and experience into consideration as you plan and make enhancements. I look forward to seeing how things unfold, and I am sure I will continue to grow with Logos too as time goes on. I pray for wisdom, discernment, and inspiration from the Lord as you take everything to the next level, all for His glory!

    God bless you!
