Hi!

I wonder if there is a map tool in Logos or something else out there that allows you to see the biblical and current locations simultaneously. Thank you.

    Hi Roger,

You can right click in the Atlas Tool and choose to open the location in Google Maps or Bing Maps. If you have them side by side this might be a suitable solution.

    Good one! Thank you, Kevin!

There are some, myself included, who will find the acronym that preceded this quote a little discomforting.

Given the nature of the software and the subjects it deals with I would have thought that this was predictable.

Really? I'm sorry about that, Mike. I don't really speak English, I read a little. I've know of some acronyms like FYI or ASAP, etc. I would like to know why these initials cause discomfort. 😕

That's the problem with acronyms some mean other things in other places. I would think that most English speakers would expand OMG to the expletive 'Oh my God' and the discomfort therefore would have to do with the first commandment.

In fact a friend of mine was a habitual user of both the acronym and the expanded version that I started calling her 'Saint X', when she asked why I told her that it was because she was so often in prayer. She desisted in short order.  :-)

People grow up in different cultures from all around the world. I grew up in a culture whereby short pants (shorts) was not worn by grown men.  Well today... so much for that! lol.

But I have always been careful about the acronyms I use as I know some are just flat out offensive. And also...

Matthew 5:37  But let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No.' For whatever is more than these is from the evil one.

So... maybe because of my lack of understanding... or because I try not to be offensive to others who I may one day get a chance to teach Jesus too...  I refrain from some thing.

But .... that is my personal choice. And I do not think my personal choice is something I will try to bind on anyone.

    Better safe than sorry...

Just one man's opinion..... which ain't worth a plug nickel!

Some of us grew up saying "Oh my goodness" though, to be fair.

I heard that the Samaritan Woman went at the sixth hour to draw water because, although it was the hottest time of the day, she did not have to face murmuring people. And that Jesus sent all his disciples for food in consideration of her, that she might not be ashamed. I think I learned something.

OMG... Really?? This bothered you SO much that you had to rebuke someone over an internet forum? Seems extremely petty and childish. I'm sure the guy asking how to use his 'BIBLE STUDY' software meant it the way you took it. God's more concerned with the intentions of our heart than our outward display of the law. But if you really think the guy was taking the Lord's name in vain and belittling God, more power to you.

Or, more charitably and therefore more Christlike, one could assume that the purpose of the post was to warn someone who is possibly not aware that is acronym could be offensive that he might wish to change his language in the future. When you been around the forums longer and have understood the "living room atmosphere" that is the intended atmosphere and the general approach of the person who made the post, you will likely have a different take on the post.

I read this thread again....  and now I wonder...

I'm a thinking ... some people just don't have enough to do than to take what someone says and twist it to their own delights... and if they can feel offended  by it....  then they are.

Does the person who uses "OMG" not have the right to do so, given the 1st Amendment Or does the 1st Amendment only apply to the person listening? I think it applies to both.

And if you say something that offends me (in the context of being offensive) then I should have a right to point it out....   but that means keeping things in the context in which the speaker spoke. Since the speaker does have a 1st Amendment right also.

But no way... should anyone be allowed to take something that is in the context of being harmless...  and twist it and then complain that it offends them.

Where is the tolerance they so scream about?  Where is the fair play? Why do they take the 1st amendment to only suit their wants and desires?

    From a wondering mind... [8-|]

"living room atmosphere" ... If this group of people were sitting in someone's living room and this man was spoken to this way it would perceived as 'missing the point', ungracious, and rude

Not if you knew Mike. And indeed, in our livingroom OMG is disrespectful.  I guess your livingroom, probably ok (no offense).

"if you knew Mike" ... You're kind of making my point for me. There are thousands of people on these forums and 90% of them don't know each other. So this is not a case of a brother pulling a brother aside to correct wrong behavior. Rather, it is publicly shaming someone in order to exhibit moral and spiritual superiority.

If you re-read your post, you're pretty much in the same position as you portray Mike. There's a greek word originating from 'actor' appropriate here.

So if Mike does it... It's acceptable, but if someone draws attention to it... they're a hypocrite. Got it!

And still do, on occasion.  Some of the habits we pick up as children from the adults around us can stick with us for the rest of our lives.
