BUG: Resource downloaded even with "Download New Resources" set to No

I've been trying to free up hard drive space so I have removed some resources from my hard drive and set "Download New Resources" to No in my settings.

I purchased a couple of base packages this morning and for some strange reason, Logos automatically downloaded exactly one (1) of the resources, even though I have "Download New Resources" turned off. (see below; the second resource was just an update so not relevant to this bug)

This is the resource that downloaded: https://www.logos.com/product/179917/genesis-introduction-and-commentary

Any idea what would cause this? Has anyone else had this problem?

Someone else hinted at this issue today, but did not provide the details that you did. Looks like a bug.

Thanks for the info. Hopefully someone from Faithlife can log this. Not a huge deal for me today since it was only one resource and one that I was going to download individually anyway, but it would be frustrating if it had tried to download more or all of them with limited hard drive space.

Okay now I just bought a Mobile Ed course bundle and they all downloaded automatically! Defeats the purpose of changing my settings. Please help!

I sent an email to FL. Hopefully they will look into it and respond in a timely manner.

Next time you add new resources, please make sure to have logging enabled and then post logs here so we can see exactly what is happening.

Is there any possibility that you previous had these resources downloaded, either due to a subscription or from a returned product?

No for the Commentary, Yes for the Mobile Ed courses.

I wondered if that were the issue but I've never owned/refunded that commentary and I don't know what subscription just the Genesis volume of the commentary (and not the whole series) would have been included in. I don't see it included in anything I've had before when I look at the product page.

However, if I uninstalled Logos and removed the folder and did a clean install, should it have even downloaded the Mobile Ed courses? Or does it work that way regardless? This is precisely what I was trying to avoid by doing a clean install and partial download, I didn't want it to remember what I had previously downloaded and re-download it like an update. This is probably something that should be changed if that's the case. Why would it automatically down any cloud resource regardless of whether I've had it previously or not? Seems like a design flaw. Why wouldn't it just re-add it to my library but keep it in the cloud?

The application keeps and syncs to the server a list of the resources you indicated that you wanted downloaded. It associates that list with the machine you are running on, which means that this will still be used if you reinstall. Some people would see this as a feature if they were forced to reinstall to allow them to get back to the state they were in.

If you previously owned a resource that was downloaded, then lost ownership of that resource, then when you reacquired the resource the system would see that you had previously indicated that you wanted the resource downloaded on this computer, and it would download it again, regardless of your "new resource" settings.

I do see your point about being forced to re-install. But if I chose to re-install for the express purpose of taking advantage of the cloud resource feature to free up hard drive space, and if I selected all of my preferences during the install (I believe it actually asks you if you want to download new resources during the install, and you can also change the setting later), then, in that case, I would want it to respect my current settings for all resources rather than remembering my old settings for previously owned resources.

Just something to think about, maybe there's a better way to manage both scenarios. Since I've had several subscriptions that I've ended, there may be quite a few resources that I previously had access to and I don't want them all downloading if I purchase them since I'm trying to free up hard drive space, I want to be able to choose which ones to download. For the Mobile Ed courses, my goal was to only download them when I was ready to go through them, or maybe even go through them on the web app instead of downloading them.

What happens to a user who decides to delete a bunch of resources. Should the record update so that it doesn't redownload them all again? See link to other post for a user who had her entire library redownload.

If you remove a resource, then that is remembered. If you lose and reacquire the license for the resource, then that state is remembered either way.

The thread you linked seems unrelated to this issue, since none of those resource are "new resources".

It may have a different cause, but it is very problematic and if there is a bug it should be addressed ASAP.
