IPad Purchase Question
When buying an IPad how important is the size in terms of running L4? And how much better is it to wait for the 3G version? I am thinking of buying the WiFi 32 version. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I have been researching this same question. Regarding L4, most of the app requires an internet connection. You can download and read books, but not search, use the Passage Guide etc. Future versions may allow for some of these features to be used offline, which may require a bit more space. So here are the questions you need to answer:
1. Will you only be using the iPad in locations that have wifi available? If so, you do not need 3g.
2. Will you also be storing large media files on your iPad, such as photos, movies, and music? If not, then 32gigs should be sufficient.
The nice feature with the iPad 3g, is that there is no requirement to use the 3g network unless you need it, and then you just buy a month's or 250 gigs worth of download. You then cancel the service when you do not need it. So, the extra $130 provides insurance that you always have access to the internet if and when you need it. Going on a trip, open the iPad and pay $15, and you have access for a month or 250 gigs.
Since is was so close to "late April" I opted for the 3g model, Since I also do some photography, I purchased the 64 gig model as well. I do not intend to use the 3g network except when I know I will be working away from home or office.

I have the 32Gb WiFi which I received on release day - April 3rd. I am very happy with it and use it every day, mainly for Logos, productivity apps, and internet. The displayed total capacity in the Settings menu is 29Gb. So far I have 85 apps including Logos. These are mostly iPad specific apps. I have 2 movies, my 10 current favorite music albums, and my top rated photos (about 100). As well as some podcasts and about 20-30 downloaded books into iBooks and Kindle. My available capacity in Settings is at 23Gb. For my situation, the Wifi only model is fine. I don't do a terrible lot of traveling and I have Wifi at home and at the office and most other places I would use my iPad. Hope this helps. Brad

I would recommend waiting as it seems that most of the Logos features are and will be tied to an internet connection. I imagine that when Notes and highlighting are implemented, those will be relatively internet dependent (as they are synced with your L4 library). Search, link following, & Passage guide functionality are all tied to an internet connection.
Without internet, Logos for iPhone/iPad is just a reader

I realize many/most people have wifi at home and maybe even the office (not me), but I wonder how many churches offer wifi access to non-employees. This is quite a problem at my church and it's quite frustrating. I co-lead a men's Bible study and attend once or twice a week for services and other events where access for my iPod touch would be wonderful. I wish more churches would get on the technological band wagon, but maybe that's just me. [:)]

John, I just got the Iphone, 32 gig, rather than the ipad. But, I just got my first full months bill from ATT. I have unlimited data, but it is all listed out so that I can see just how much I used. I felt that as a pastor I was on my iphone all of the time. searching things when I was out, and in my off time, I was always looking for new apps... I used a total of 272 meg of service for the month. I was shocked. now, my youngest son used 1.6 gig of data in the same time... so one can use more data than I did, but I suspect that 250 meg of service would do most people... oh, and if I would have known that, I might have kept my old phone, and bought a verizon hot spot card at $30/month for 250 meg. that would have saved me about $50 a month over what i am spending now with the Iphone. just some thoughts on useage.

Actually, I do believe the iPhone version DOES have the PASSAGE GUIDE & TEXT COMPARISON. It's my favourite feature of the iPhone version!
I've attached screenshots from my iPhone LOGOS. All you do is "swipe up" when you are in the Bible reading window and it will bring up the menu with passage guide. I have the Platinum package for Logos4 and the commentaries show up on my iPhone in the passage guide.
Too bad they don't have the iPad in my neck of the woods (Canada) yet....

Get as much storage as you can. I have already filled my 16gb model. If you have an iPhone double the amount you use on it.

These features work if you have access to the internet via wifi or 3g. The iPhone uses 3g to access these functions. If you go offline, you will not have access to these functions currently using the app.

You're absolutely correct, John (I didn't know that prior to you clarifying)! I should have read your post more carefully (seems like I have a habit of jumping to conclusions)... or maybe it's just because I have such a low number of total "posts" I wanted to boost up the number. [:)] Next time, I will make sure I do my homework.
This does cause me to think I might not want the iPad until a full offline usable version of LOGOS is on it. I wouldn't want to pay for my 3G data plan for the iPhone AND the iPad. Bad stewardship, I'd think.

Do as I, get a mifi, slip the sim from the iPhone into the mifi, then you can use the iPad via wifi from the mifi, and no need for a separate data plan. Downside is having to switch the SIM but I live with that.

Are you stating that you can simply purchase the MiFi, put the sim card in the mifi and there is no need to have a separate data plan for the mifi? if so, ho much is the mifi and where can it be purchased? Thanks Kelly

In researching this it seems that there s a rather large monthly fee. Kelly: good question. Can you just pull the sim card out of your verizon phone and put it in the mifi? Is that, pardon my ignorant question, even legal? (I am not making any accusations here, just asking.)

I got hold of an unlocked mifi unit and yes, my iPhone sim works in it just fine. Not I hastened to add an AT&T sim, so I can't comment on how well that would work. But for those moments when I need to use wifi, this little trick is just the ticket.

While I have not yet sprung for an iPad and am trying not to break the commandment regarding coveting, I'll offer this in regard to my use of an iPod Touch. I can't see trying to use Logos without the WiFi connection. A couple of months ago I went ahead and purchased a MiFi Hotspot from Verizon. This has turned out to be a great solution as it gives me access when using my Touch or my laptop (and an iPad if I give in). We recently moved and we've visited a number of churches in search of a new church home. None have had an open WiFi connection though all have had secured WiFi.
One option to consider right now is the fact that Verizon is offering the Palm Pre with no charge for the Hotspot feature. You do have to pay for a $30 monthly data plan which provides unlimited data through the phone. The Hotspot is limited to 5GB which is more than enough. For now though the Hotspot capability has no charge. This is compared to the same service I'm currently contracted into with the Novatel MiFi for $60 per month.
All things considered I rather pay for the Hotspot and be able to use up to 5 devices on it than have 3g built in.

Michael, do your offerings help pay for the WiFi service they do have? if so then I say you have a legitimate reason to request access to it while at the church. If they have things setup correctly they shouldn't need to worry about some accessing the internet via wireless from there mobile devices. I have access at my church and use my logos on my iPhone and iPad just fine. I guess you need to address the board about this.

I think this is where the main problem is and I'm not an IT guy, but I know they can provide access without any (extremely little) risk to breaching/accessing their server(s).
I guess you need to address the board about this.
