Specs for new laptop
I am ordering a new laptop soon. What are reasonable specs I should use for a new laptop?

Time to revisit the new Laptop Advice Column
I want Laptop PC for travel that will not move around a lot. Sort of a Desktop replacement. I want it to last for several years to come. I am willing to spend a little for a good one.
Suggestions? 15" 16" 17"
Dell? Asus ROG? Proart?
Should I focus more on Video card (3080) or processor (i9 12950) or RAM (16MB - 64 MB)?
I am hoping for a max of $25000 -

True, but I will be traveling some and prefer not to lug a desktop...but I may rethink that.

I have had good experiences with the ASUS ROG line

I know you are talking windows, but for comparison:
$2500 will buy you:
- A Mac mini with 16GB Ram, 1 TB SSD <AND>
- A MacBook Air with 8GB Ram, 256 GB SSD.
(True, you'd still need to get a keyboard, monitor, mouse... but still).
A different solution to this equation: Buy a moderately supped up laptop, but not exactly top of the line:
- A MacBook Air with 16GB Ram, 512 GB SSD = $1700. That would easily last you "several" years and provide you with a down payment ($800) on a new machine in three years
Spending $2500 on a laptop to largely stay at home probably isn't the best option.

I can spend half that on a laptop for home use because it meets all my requirements that used to require a desktop.

I recently bought this one.
ASUS TUF Gaming F17
11th Gen Intel 6-Core i5-11260H
32GB DDR4 2TB SSD

The school bought me a new laptop and printer and paper and ink.
The screens on the MAC are smaller for even the most expensive models. I need the 17 inch because I am so blind. The battery life is awful on this. I cannot get through a 3.5 hour class. This laptop plus the cord are HEAVY.
I would have preferred a business laptop to a gaming laptop, because I have had bad luck with overheating of the graphics cards that I don't need. But the business laptop were so much more for the same specs.

for those on fence for the newer MacBook pros, they are still $400 off at Amazon (and probably BestBuy I would guess, store will match) at the moment.

Next time when I'll buy a laptop, I'll try to get a 1000 GB SSD.
Large screen with high resolution might be good when using mostly on the home desk.
I have a touch screen in my laptop but currently it is not terribly useful in Logos.

Not germaine to GaoLu's question, but in choosing a future laptop, I think, more and more, the decision is 'laptop and tablet/phone' (both). I now shop apps so I can use the same app across all my devices (MBP, iPhone, IPad and strangely enough iPod).
The other issue is expansiveness in Logos itself. I probably push its edge, but my in-use memory is moving along toward 16g's (probably not by necessity, but efficiency).

Even 1/3 will get you a Windows laptop that will run Logos/Verbum quite well for some years.

Thanks to all for the helpful input.
I also edit video, and do some programming in C# / VB / SQL. All on one semi-portable computer.
So that is also something.0
