Help with Copy Style

I'm trying to set up a copy/paste style, and I'm close but not quite to what I want, which is:

  • The selected passage
  • Only the text and reference pasted into Word (no headings)
  • Applying my Word style called "Normal"
  • With the reference and resource after the text.

I'll give the content of my style and then the results, pointing out what's not quite what I'm after. I'll appreciate suggestions about how to edit the style contents for my purposes.

MY STYLE CONTENT

%NoRedLetter
%ForEachVerseStyle= Normal
%UseBibleParagraphs
%CopyAllText
%NoFootnotes
%NoCitation

=Header

=ForEachVerse
[VerseText]

=Footer<p>[FullPassageRef] ([Version])</p>

SAMPLE RESULTS

The Vine and the Branches

15 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

John 15:1 (NIV)

UNDESIRED RESULTS

  • I don't want the heading "The Vine and the Branches," just the text and reference.
  • I don't want the bold "15," just a regular superscripted number 1 for the verse.
  • My Word "Normal" style is correctly applied to the whole thing, but the heading is in a different font from my style. Not a problem if I eliminate copying the heading, but I might want to understand why it's applying the wrong font for other purposes.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Many have asked for a way to export both text and Notes in one step. My guess is that copyrights prevented Faithlfe from providing it.

Would you (please, oh please) provide the steps (all of them, for the compleat idiot) you use to achieve what you have accomplished?

Opening the CopyBibleVerse tool in a panel, then while that tool is active, utilize F1 key to open the respective Logos Help file for the tool. It contains quite a bit of detailed information on the various options available in the tool, including setting up certain personal styles for how one would like the text of verse(s) to be copied into one's Word (or other) documents.

As for copying notes, there are options to include items that are actually part of the resource text. I'm not sure about what's possible for including personal notes that are attached to a reference or a text inside a verse.

Jack, you can always copy by right-clicking a selected passage and using the context menu. But for the more complicated copying I'm trying to do, the above reply is correct--you can find Help instructions for the Copy Bible Verses tool:

    • Open Tools/Copy Bible Verses (scroll down--it's under the Passages section heading).
    • Within the pane that opens, press F1 to see Help.
    • The article that opens has all kinds of information, including Formatting instructions if you scroll down.

But since you asked for step by step--a man after my own heart!--here's how I've recently learned to copy with my desired formatting. I give these instructions with fear and trepidation, because I'm a fairly new Logos user, having come from Wordsearch. If I get something wrong, hopefully someone else will correct me.

    1. Open Tools/Copy Bible Verses as described above..
    2. In the pane that opens, you'll see Copy _____________. The words after Copy are the title of the style that will be applied to your copied text. (As in Microsoft Word, a style is a set of formatting instructions that applies to text.)
    3. Click on the style name to select from a gallery of saved styles. If there is one you're happy with, click on it to select it.
    4. Enter the reference for the verse or passage you want to copy in the window just under the tab.
    5. Click Copy, and you're ready to paste your copied passage.

If you're not happy with any of the available styles:

    • Choose one closest to what you want.
    • Select the 3-dot menu in the pane and select Edit Style. Or you can select Create a New Style to copy the one you already selected and then edit your new style as desired.
    • To see more formatting options, Click F1 for Help and scroll down in the article that opens up.
    • Add the formatting options you want to your style.
    • Once you have a style you're happy with, do steps 4 and 5 above to enter the Scripture reference and copy.

You can do all kinds of things by formatting a style, like single-click copying/pasting into Word with your desired Word style pre-applied. Frankly, I didn't find the formatting instructions completely clear, which is why I'm asking for help in this forum to get my style just right.

    I hope this helps--and I didn't get anything wrong!

I just tried the following Style definition:

    [code]%NoCharFormatting
    %NoRedLetter
    %NoFootnotes
    %NoCitation
    %ForEachVerseStyle=Normal
    %FooterStyle=Normal

    =Header

    =ForEachVerse
    <p>[VerseNum][VerseText]</p>

    =Footer
    <p>[FullPassageRef] ([Version])</p>[/code]

My result was the following (using my "Normal" style in Word):

1“I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.

    John 15:1 (NIV)

I hope this info is helpful.

Thanks, Kathy and Wolfgang, for your help. You have given me a nifty new tool that I did not realize was available. For the benefit of others, here are my steps to create and use Copy Bible Verses.
