The difference a video card makes

I just wanted to say that a dedicated video card does make significant difference in performance while using L4. I recently purchased a quad core with 4gb of ram and it was pretty fast with L4 but after installing a vid card with 512 dedicated mem L4 is much snappier. Especially when entering notes and clippings and working with the passage lists and such. Haven't really looked at the Biblical people and such but there is a difference in typing time. I used to have to wait on it to catch while typing now there is very little lag between my typing and the notes showing up.

what were your previous specs? (I assume you are referring to a desktop PC)

what brand/model of video card are you using? I am interested if certain hardware performs better than other.

I had the integrated graphics card that came with the slimline gateway that bought. I bought several different cards and returned them until I finally found a ATI radeon 53 something. It has 512 dedicated on board memory.

My windows aero score went from 3.6 to 4.6 4.6 being the desktop graphics score and my gaming score went up to 6.7.

It does make a difference, to a point. I have a GTX 295, with 1792MB of RAM. Windows in Logos still take time to refresh and move, and layout changes can take over ten seconds. This is on a Core i7 920 CPU (quad core), with 12GB of RAM.

Question: Is there any sense trying to assess video cards based upon amount of RAM vs. speed of its processor? Which might be a more important factor within LOGOS?

I would have thought so. My HDD is a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Black, one of the fastest 7,200RPM drives on the market. It rates 5.9 in the Windows 7 WEI score.

L2 cache is 4 × 256 KB, L3 cache is 8 MB.

I have mentioned this many times, but there is something concerning L 4 that we are missing since, I have a 1.3 processor, a 5400 speed HD and the wrong kind of graphic card, but yet my little laptop is in many cases much quicker than laptops with the faster processor 7200 speed HD and a dedicated graphic card..

The only thing that it has that everyone says you need is 4 gb of DDR3 ram.

What we really need to see is some one from Logos that can tell us what works and what doesn't they must know by now, why some very nice spendy systems are getting beat in speed by systems in the 600 dollar range.

On the other hand I am not saying a faster HD and dedicated video card would not help most systems work faster, what I am saying is they are not need to have a fast Logos 4 program. There is something else at work here and I don't understand what it is.

But it would be nice to know, in order to help people on a budget get the least expensive machine they could and still have fast results with Logos 4.

I bought a Gateway desktop for 500 bucks and it is really snappy. The sx2800. I then spent 80 dollars on a graphics card. I already had a monitor so I am out total about 600 dollars plus a monitor. If you don't need a laptop this is really the way to go.

I don't get this either.

I have Vista32 with 4 GB ram, on a laptop thats over a year old. Its got dual-core Intel CPU at about 2.3?? GHz and a small slow laptop drive of 300 GB or something.

Its not common that I ever need to wait much in Logos4. I dont really use saved layouts, but I move tabs around at will, depending on what I need. If I open an auto-saved one from my Layouts button, the new one arrives and redraws in about 3-4 seconds.

I would expect the above specs (i7, quad-core, 12 GB RAM etc) would make my laptop look sad. I just dont get how it sounds slower based on the above description!!!

I think it is reported a long time ago. And that's the reason I choose this computer.

Someone reported that 7200rpm has a significant higher performance than 5400rpm.

Same for display card

no. of cores

etc. (might be RAM is not that demanding. I have 4 GB but the amount used is at ~2GB level in most cases)

In short, every bit of computational power helps a lot.
