Paul on unity?

How do I put together a search in the Greek NT to find everything Paul said about unity? Searched for this but either typed in my question unclearly or simply cannot find what I want. Thanks in advance.

Does limiting a Bible search to the Pauline epistles and searching for <Sense agreement> give you what you want?

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

  • I've tried some "sense" searches but they always turn red and get no results.

If me, in like situations, I find a passage that meets my 'topic' idea, and then see how it's classed for searching.

  • Thanks. I am not sure I understand what you are saying. Can you give me an example? Old guy here [;)]

    Old guy here

I'm guessing I have 'old' more than you!

In the example below, I was curious if the apocalyptic 'nearer' (eg shortening the time) was specially coded for searching.  Right-clicking it shows the various tag-schemes (none of which were helpful, beyond the usual apocalyptic).  You probably have examples of 'unity' from Paul?

I've tried some "sense" searches but they always turn red and get no results.

That tells me you weren't selecting a sense from the drop-down menu but was entering an unknown value. However, I was recommending precisely what I wrote as I found no results with the senses of unity that I tried.

I would do a version of what DMB recommended.

    1. take a passage that you know you want to select
    2. select the word that "means" unity in the passage
    3. right click to open the context menu
    4. select "sense" on the left-hand side of the menu
    5. select Bible search on the right-hand side of the menu
    6. modify the search to limit it to the Pauline epistles

PS - I suspect I'm in the same age range.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

  • Ah, I didn't understand what you were suggesting. I'll try this later, my laptop battery died. Thank you.

    Follow-up question for MJ Smith:

I see that your search also picked up 1 Corinthians 6:16 that has a similar, different Greek word that my search did not catch. One difference is that you searched "Greek Bible test" that looks like a custom series. Could you tell me what resources are included in the series?

I would do a version of what DMB recommended.

Granted, my approach is similar to a bludgeon (limited workability). But the OP's question illustrates the 'sense' diagram as having limited usability (in largely religious software).  The better 'sense' would have worked off of 'church' > 'body'.  But you'd have to already know the semantic connection between 'agree' and 'group' > 'body'.

LN 11.3x sort of hints at the semantic connectivity.
