Collections... Encouragement Post
After owning a logos package for...probably more than 10 years... I've finally figured out how I can best organize my library for me to use.
I've created a few collections of books...
I did not use a rule to assemble the collection, I simply dragged them into the window to assemble a given collection...
And I created some really simple, basic collections...
The Bible versions I like to use
The study Bibles I like
Books I want to read from cover to cover
Books centered on the denomination I grew up in...
All really simple, collections...|
But now when I think of using the program... I'm no longer thinking of 7,000+ books
Im thinking of maybe a few hundred...
With thousands of supporting works...
This may seem so simple, almost silly
But I'm happy and feeling accomplished...
I have a handle on this now...

I have a handle on this now...
Great!
I find Collections very helpful, especially when using the Passage Guide.

That's a really great way to think about it, Paul.

I'm thinking of making a graphic or a poster to put on my wall... So I can see that I have the Mike Heiser collection or reading room
Ellen G White (I grew up SDA) collection
The maps and Atlases room
My full collection of Bibles
Bibles that I mainly read collection
Then from there each of these collections... can have a layout...
So when I get ready to sit and study
OR...
from the mobile app... I can think through which collection, the resource that I think, what Im trying to find is in... and find it faster0 -
What would be nice......is... if Logos printed that for us somehow....kind of like they do in Bible Books Explorer.....
Maybe they do and I don't know about it??? [8-|]

I know you can print out a list of all the books in a collection. Also, because it is primarily focused on sermon prep, and scholarly research and academics and church presentation its not really set up for the few people, that are willing to go through the learning curve associated with Logos and are willing to deal with the cost of entry...
There arent many of ua that have a boss Logos library, purely to kick back and read and muse around
and for all I know you might be writing a doctoral dissertation or something.
In my head, my iMac, is in a oak paneled room, with a floor to ceiling window view of a grassy field with a stream or river off in the distance,
where I can come and ponder the deep mysterys of the Lord... like EM Bounds.
The reality is... the Dashboard is good...and I can see in the tiles the last few things that I was working on...
but the majority of the time that I come to Logos... Im either 1. trying to get clarity on a verse or a passage or a question...
2. been watching Mike Heiser videos and want to read a bit further in one of his books and possibly want clarity on something he's said
or 3... feeling guilty about all the courses that I have that I genuinely want to dig into...
or 4. I literally have a ton of books... that I genuinely want to read... the subject matter intriques me...
but, you sorta need a cheat sheet to get from the home page...
to a resource in one of those 4 areas.
See if I owned a physical library in a phsyical room... Id simply leave books open everywhere... my wife would never come in this room...
id come in and read for a spell...
probably do a lectio divina and then move on to something else...
Forming collections is probably the 1st step...
setting up layouts for each of the 4 areas I listed above the next step and then dedicating a couple of time periods each day...
the other thing about Logos is there is so much to it... that giving it even an hour or 2 per day... feels like you'll never even put a dent into it.
But... what I can't loose sight of is...all of this, is to cultivate a deeper relationship with the Lord...and whatever I dont learn from my resources on this side of glory... and whatever the HS doesnt make clear... I can ask God personally on the other side. Perhaps Logos is in no way a means to a destination but an oracle of information to root around in for a lifetime

I hear ya man! And one of the keys (to me) is the Search... which I find most confusing 99% of the time.... what good is all that information I have in Logos .... if I cannot find what I'm looking in a comfortable reasonable amount of time? I don't know how many times I have tried and given up because I forgot what I was looking for and changed to trying to learn how to do a search!
I'm hoping Logos 10 will have an improved Search.... hope a hope a hope! [8-|]
