New Toolbar Option - Left or Top?
Have any of you moved the toolbar back to the top? I like it on the left; it seems to "disappear" when I am doing work. However, 20+ years of muscle memory has me moving my cursor to the top when I want to do something on the toolbar.
Also, I noticed that in the Morris Proctor videos, after showing that there is an option to move the toolbar back to the top, left it at the top for the rest of the videos.
What is your take?

My "muscle memory" has me moving my mouse to the top a lot also. Old habits and such.
I am now purposefully using it on the side ... made up my mind to do that.
One thing I hope comes in the future... is that we can have "automatic hide menu" in Logos... much like the task bar in Windows... whereby the menu bar will hide... then when I move my mouse over it, it will appear. I love having all the "real estate" I can on my screens.... [8-|]

The more I use L10, I prefer the left side for the tool bar. Having the ability to collapse it is truly a minor tweak, but a major win for usability.

I have more horizontal space than vertical, so the the toolbar on the left does take up less space. I'm giving it a try to see if I prefer it after getting used to the unfamiliarity of it. So far it seems to be sticking, and I do like the look of it.

I think I'm sticking to the top. My screens are large enough that having them on the left would be more of a pain to my muscle memory. Old habits, right?

My take is that the "left side toolbar" is more of a fashionable gadget than anything else. I am still not seeing any real practical benefit in comparison to leaving it at the top.
The claim of gaining screen real estate is not convincing for me .... what's the difference if I have one more line of text on the screen when most resources require vertical scrolling any ways because their text doesn't fit on one screen anyways?
I'm sticking with toolbar on top of screen.

The left toolbar has grown on me. I like it better now than at the top. I use it mostly to the left. Only occasionally have I wanted it on the top.
I like having more vertical space for my panels since I'm using a 16:9 aspect ratio laptop.
But I also LOVE not having to fight with the Go Box expanding and competing with my tools. They should actually make the Go box work the same way in Top view as it does in Left view. I'm not sure why they didn't do that. The Go Box functionality is massively improved but only in Left view. I actually use the Go box now which I almost never did before because I didn't want the hassle.

If they put this feature in the top tool bar I'd probably go back to it. The expanding Go Box always moved my shortcuts around.

I agree it would be useful, but this should be an optional setting as it is for Windows and Microsoft Office programs.

You might keep your eye on those icons. When you switch from top to left or visa versa, at least mine are not the same (probably a glitch; top one duplicated a layout icon; left is correct).

I have each setup - on the Win 11 laptop, I am still trying the Left orientation. On my Linux machine, I moved it back to the top, as I keep my OS toolbar on the left already.

I hated the “left” bar in the beta (I joked that “I’m not a leftist”), but I’m forcing myself to use it for a week now that L10 has officially launched. The jury is still out on where I’ll park.

On my Surface Pro's I prefer top since I have enough vertical resolution and need the horizontal real estate more for my layouts. On my desktop I could go either way, but currently have it at the top for consistency.

I’m getting used to the minimized left vertical orientation. So far my brain is conscious of the change, but every now and then I jump and ask, “where’d the tool bar go?!!!” 😂

I agree completely. An automatic hide setting and also making the menu accessible from every page/screen, would be ideal for me. My templates usually have between 4 to 6 pages/screens and I frequently have to hunt for the menu.

I'm making myself leave it on the left for a couple weeks.
I'm a creature of habit, and at first, I found it unnerving. But I think I may learn to like it better because of screen real-estate. So I'm giving it a fair shake.

That was my reaction. Now I am used to the left position and use it naturally except for the panel menu functions - help, program settings, and about Logos. For them I still reflexively go to the upper right rather than lower left [8-|]

For some reason, and after trying both settings for the toolbar, I just can't see the "better because of screen real estate" ... where is that screen real estate advantage in a practical sense?
I use a regular size 24" desktop monitor, not wide screen ... When opening a resource in a panel, just about every time the resource will not fit in its entirety into the panel screen real estate space and will require vertical scrolling anyways in order to continue reading. This is the case, no matter what position for the toolbar is chosen. Where then is the big advantage if I see maybe one more line of text in a Bible or other book with left side toolbar compared to top toolbar? Isn't screen real estate for resources more effected by design of layout being used (number of side-by-side-panels, size of panels, text size setting, etc.)?

Nope. Love it on the left (collapsed): more lines on screen at once in every column.
And I love the command bar flyout from clicking the Logos button.

I like the toolbar on the left—in skinny mode. It's less distracting for my reading to not have a toolbar on top, in my eye-line.

I have a 34" monitor, so my experience will be quite a bit different than yours. My eyes are too old to use those little ones. :-)

I'm keeping it on the left. With a widescreen monitor I'd rather have the space for more text vertically.

I moved it back to the top. But now I would like to figure out how to get the "words" to appear on the toolbar for the drop-down / pop-up menus rather than the icons alone, which are giving me fits.

Funny thing that in the Spanish interface it says “Izquierdo” or “ Favorito” <~~~ Favorite is the translation and it doesn’t mean “on top.” 😂

But now I would like to figure out how to get the "words" to appear on the toolbar for the drop-down / pop-up menus
on the lower right of the vertical toolbar there is a > which expands the toolbar. Click it and the toolbar will widen to show the words. On the horizontal toolbar, there are no options for words rather than icons but a hover/mouse over should help.
