How to: stop selecting the sentence & wasting screen space?
How do I get the app to STOP selecting an entire sentence/heading and blocking half of my phone's screen with a pop-up I have no interest in every time my thumb touches the text on the screen without managing to flip the page?

There is not a way to turn off text selection, though we will consider adding in an option if there is sufficient demand.
I'm not sure if this is a part of the struggles you are finding with the new text selection, but if you are trying to bring up the top and bottom toolbars, but instead keep getting the selection menu, you can:
- Tapping the top (minimized) bar, and/or
- By releasing your finger from the screen when scrolling. I.e. if your finger is on the screen while scrolling, the nav bars will not show, but if you scroll and release your finger, the nav bars will show.

Count me as one vote. I much preferred how text selection worked in 9.

As I hinted at with my reference to flipping pages, I don't scroll in the mobile app; I have disabled that option. So, I guess, touches that for scrollers cause no problems do cause me problems. Do most of the designers of the app scroll when doing their own reading? Perhaps if my eyes had an easier time with the scroll view I would have a more positive experience of trying to read on 10 mobile. Right now I prefer the previous generation of the app.

Goodness. Who dreamed that up? Whatever happened to Bob's book.
And it's naively designed. Looks for a period, no matter. Then, gets lost in a long sentence, finally rolling to a halt at page end. Ok, stops 1 char short. But actually not. It kept going, like an Eveready Bunny.

I would also like to get rid of the select whole verse 'feature'. If I'm reading a Greek bible I often need to look up a word because my Greek is not very good. It used to be easy; now it seems to be impossible.

No.
'Intuitive' would be, single-tap to select a word, double-tap to select a sentence (or more), and press/hold to pop up a menu.

I didn’t know you could double tap a word. I just tried it and it works great. I’ve been using the tap and hold method, which has been working flawlessly for me. I, for one have been loving this feature. I’ve found it to be very useful. This is not to minimize anyone else’s complaints, just my opinion so far. 😊

I cannot understand the reasoning behind the new text selection. Could you explain why this is a feature and not a bug?
This new way to select text don‘t seem to be superior and requires the titlebar in fullscreen (when scrolling is off), which is a high cost.

I find the idea of single-tap for a word and double-tap for a sentence or verse to be more intuitive.
Although I'm beginning to get used to the new system, I preferred the old one. If I'm using split-screen then there's pretty much nothing left after the options pane pops up.

Frankly, I just tap and hold to select a word. Not very happy with the results, though. I just want to see what the underlying OL word is/means. In L3, you didn't even have to click to get an immediately helpful pop-up...just hover and instajoy! Now I get a menu plus a bunch of bizarre notifications informing me that I have other notes in the sentence I'm checking, as if I didn't know and/or need to know that. What once required no taps or clicks now requires a tap-and-hold, a scroll, and another tap that takes me completely to another screen to list the word entry from my preferred lexicon, which means I can't read the entry and see the context at the same time. Having the visible lex entry on the screen while I think about that in terms of the visible context of the verse helps me process the information...that is, it USED to...but not anymore.
Why, when I'm looking up the word "work", do I need to be informed that I have two notes attached to the sentence "work" is in? Who decided that was a good idea and then programmed it? Is there any world in the multiverse where that would be an expectation or desire when highlighting a specific word?
Also, while the menu window is opened above, what does Search Inline mean/do?

Well, lucky you, Mr Paul. On my LHI, any tap does nothing (single, long, double) ... only the system magnifying glass. But in the panel below (Samaritan hebrew) it pulls up the menu/lemma!
They really mucked the app up. Basics don't work. I'd bet the mobile folks got rushed by the accounting and marketing folks. Need money!

I for one really like the look of the new pop up (Android version). I understand how it could get in the way for some applications and the ability to switch off and on would be great. For me, a double tap for the word and a triple tap for the sentence would be more intuitive, as it would be similar to the actions in Microsoft Word.

Okay, now it's just fuzzy and not entirely opaque. It has to do with the "whole" current resource? Hmmm. I still am not aware of what an Inline Search is or does. Based entirely on the terminology itself, it sounds like something that would be related to the sentence I'm in. I believe the term "inline" is used with regard to reverse interlinears, but I avoid RIs altogether. It seems that in that context "inline" means "in between (or running along) the lines of text". I guess I should ask, what is the difference between a Search and an Inline Search?

Unless there is a formatting suggestion, a single tap places the cursor in the word at the location of the tap. In the Android version, a single tap also brings up a location marker that can be clicked on for more information.
