Thoughts on Logos 10?
I am curious what is your experience with the new Logos 10. Thoughts?

I like it. There are some nice new features, and so far there hasn't been anything that I've had to "unlearn." For me, that's the perfect kind of upgrade - one that improves the product without changing the user interface or program structure in a way that requires me to "relearn" a software package that I've already been using for years.

I wrote my thoughts in a review here: https://brianwdavidson.com/2022/10/10/logos-10-a-thirtieth-anniversary-update/
I‘m very much enjoying the minimal Toolbar, the Apple Silicon support and speed improvements, and I always appreciate the new dataset releases.

While I'm waiting for major repairs to Logos/Verbum 10, I'm spending time with the mobile, running on my Mac. Pretty nifty. I already have v9, so the new tiles and linking are great. Selection menu good. I think it's finally passed Olivetree, but I still have to use Accordance mobile for good visuals.
Ironically, I can't download Verbum mobile, since I already have Verbum desktop ... I guess Apple matches with the literal app titles.

Very strange as others have Verbum on multiple Apple devices.

Speed on an M2 air is incredible (Startup in 4 seconds, concordance tool no longer involves going for a cup of coffee). The simplified search makes more advanced searches usable for people like me and the improvements to IOS and Web apps are great. I like the new linking options and the timeline in iOS and web.

For clarity, I was mentioning desktop Verbum, and mobile Verbum, both on the Mac M1. JT earlier mentioned the problem of names, though I don't remember exactly the specific issue.
Of course (I don't know), but I wonder how far the desktop M1 is, for running on an iPad. The future is coming.

first thing I did was move the toolbar back to the top... on my 32 inch monitors (screenshot below of my default layout) it's not much difference either place, but on the 17 inch notebook screen, it cramps the reading panes even more... vertical squeezing just means 1 or 2 less lines of text, but horizontal is everything to UX when you've got multiple tab groups
overall I like it, especially the print books feature (which I'm using for Kindle books too, mostly from before I bought Logos)
only thing I've found that I don't like is the arrows to the left & right of the tabs when they don't fit... I much preferred the old way of squeezing the text... I don't need the orange A or green B on every tab, just get rid of them so the tabs all fit without the arrows that are a UX nightmare
(sorry for the tech speak, I work in IT... UX = user experience)0 -
I just tried a random Bible, Concordance, on a MacBook Pro M1 and it finished in 55 seconds. Amazing.

Personally, I give L10 an 8.5 - 9.0 out of 10. The better speed and the new Search along was worth it. But all in all, it's a major improvement in many ways!
There are things I was hoping for in L10... but some of them may come later... I still hope!
With all the features and new additions to L10... I hope I can remember half of them to help me in my studies.. lol [8-|]

I started with Logos 2.0 beta. Logos has improved significantly over the versions. L10 has very many unexpected surprises that far exceeds expectations. It will not disappoint.
Because Logos is so powerful, it has many things that may never be learnt without Morris, or LearnLogos, and now a new kid on the block is videos from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xbGOoljTrg ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v
Learning Logos 10 will take time, but it is well worth it!
Here's an old quote (edited) - applies to Logos and to Life.
"If it's amazing, it won't be easy. If it's easy, it won't be amazing.
If it's worth it, you won’t give up. If you give up, you're not worthy."Blessings, and Shalom!

I was just going to jump back in and say this! I have been watching the MP videos, I have found a subscription to them a great benefit - I started to subscribe with Logos 9. Anyway, you are right David there are quite a number of very small things that Mo mentions that are a, "Wow that's nice" moment. They are mostly things that would not make the marketing brochure as they are too granular. But, they are very useful nonetheless!

Same here. Toolbars across the top have been a standard user-interface convention for long enough that it takes me just an extra split second to find things when they're on the side or the bottom of a window.

I've been on Logos since the legacy Mac 1.0 version.
I don't buy packages or full feature updates anymore. I had Portfolio in Logos 6, and one of the older Lutheran Platinum packages, and now add books piecemeal and only pay for the basic crossgrade. Also, for the last three versions, none of the new features or libraries were worth it for me. I just don't use them, so I cannot comment on some of the new functionality only available in a full feature upgrade.
Logos on Mac has always been a slug. It's gotten better over the years, but I kept Accordance around just so I could do quick lookups (it launches for me in under 3 seconds), and not have to wait for Logos to load.
I now use the newer Apple Silicon based Macs. Logos 10 is a massive improvement. It's night and day. It now launches in 5 seconds, including the time to sync. None of the weird layout wonkiness where it minimizes the window, then displays it again, all adding more time before you can start using it. Everything is faster. Layout changes happen in under 3 seconds. Everything is snappy. I have no need for Accordance now.
The Just-in-time downloading introduced in Logos 9 has also been vastly improved. It used to be hit or miss. You would click 'Download' and it may or may not start downloading. Maybe a few minutes later you would actually get the book. Now it is almost instant. This is a huge deal, because it is no longer necessary to keep the entire library downloaded. This also means you are no longer wasting time indexing resources you never use.
As for the new UI. Two thumbs up. The chunky top window frame is gone. Moving to single icons in a sidebar frees up a lot of screen real estate. UI scaling is also great, as I'm well into the reading-glasses stage of my life. And this may be minor, but moving the Factbook icon, and adding a search Bible icon in between means I no longer accidentally click the Factbook when I want the Library. (I never use the Factbook.)I'm sure there will be bugs found and addressed, but for how I use Logos, I could not be more pleased.

1. I like the new interface with the toolbar on the left (though it did have to grow on me, but that only took a couple of days). I like the improvements to the Command/Go Box (or whatever they're calling it now since it seems to be nameless, there's no Go button). But the improvements to the Command/Go Box are only for the Left toolbar, for some strange reason they didn't implement them for the Top toolbar.
2. The indexing is a little faster for me, the program overall is slightly faster for me but I already had an intel processor and most of the speed improvements are for the Mac M1 processors.
3. I like being able to translate Latin and German text in Logos. The German translations are pretty clear since they use DeepL, the Latin translations are not as clear since they use Google Translate, but they're adequate to get the gist of what's being said. There are many other languages in there but those are the only two I see myself using with any frequency.
4. I like being able to add books that I own (or have access to) outside of Logos to my Library and search them, and the fact that it gives you a good snippet of text and the page number. I have books in print (in a storage unit in another city [:(]), in Kindle, and I have access to some reference works and commentaries online through my university alumni account. I can add all of those to my Logos library and search them, which is pretty cool.
5. I like the enhancements to the Timeline. I might actually use it now lol. You have to play around with the formatting a little bit and figure out how you want it to look but once you figure that out it's great.
6. I'm not at all impressed by the Factbook tags at the moment, I wouldn't upgrade just for those. You're mostly tagging the data yourself. When I look in my books it seems like FL only tagged the words Jesus and Holy Spirit and some (not all) lemmas. The rest of the data looks like it's coming from users, and you can't separate user-tagged data from FL-tagged data. Adding your own tag is pretty easy though. This feature will likely improve over time.
7. My frustration is that if you want value in your upgrade for the Desktop app, you have to go all the way to Gold or the Full Feature Set. All the good improvements below Full are for mobile and mostly for iPad, and I don't own an iPad. I'm frustrated that they didn't even include any Reverse Interlinears below Gold/Full, they crammed them all in Gold/Full. I don't think that's fair, they should have sprinkled them along each level as they've done in the past. I didn't want to pay for Bronze just to only get the new Timeline on the Desktop app.
8. So unless you have an iPad, just wait until you can afford a Full Feature Upgrade. Especially since you can only get the 30% off on your first upgrade, instead of being able to get 30% off any upgrade for the entire launch period. The new interface will be free early next year so no use in upgrading now if all you want is the new interface. They'll have more sales on upgrades.

We're calling it the Command Box now.

We're calling it the Command Box now.
And then 'Gee, whatever happened to the Go box?' At least the command box shows a command in the drop down. Wiki search for the rest.

Now I accidentally click the Bible button when I want the Factbook lol. But I'm getting used to it so that's happening less and less. My eyes are getting used to distinguishing the two icons.

I’m not a power user, but outside of learning a few quirks, it’s smooth. So, I’m okay with it.

I think Logos 10 rocks. I'm still mentally transitioning my use of Logos after completing some Morris Proctor videos on L9. Logos was already slick in L9. It's now very polished and tuned for us. Nice work, Faithlife!

I've only just begun to work with it. I like the Sermon Manager. I discovered that the metadata form will not let you enter a topic (Audience is another) I have a number of topics I'd really like to add, but have to resort to the notes field instead. Would it be possible to add that ability to the development plot line. I also would love to have a specific city field for the occasion data in the record of that sermon.

I don't have a lot to say yet (still early), but I will say that FL delivered more on user requests with this iteration than they have since about L6.
In particular, the Print Books feature and the Factbook tags feature add immensely to the usefulness of the software.
One other thing I would commend FL for: In the past, I've accused the FL marketing folks of writing checks the programmers couldn't cash. I haven't seen much of that this go-round. In fact, I can't say that I've seen any of it. While that has little to do with L10, I personally find it commendable and want to express some appreciation here (since I've been critical of this in the past).
