Alright you techies. This question kind of impacts Logos because this is impacting my hard drive space.

How do I delete Temporary Internet files? Somehow I have almost 17GB of temporary internet files, and I keep running the disk cleanup tool but it won't delete them.

I just noticed that same issue on one of my Win machines. I've never seen it before. Maybe this will bump it up for someone who might know the issue. Meanwhile, I'll keep searching Google.

I usually do it through my browser. Chrome and Edge are very similar.

1. Click on the three dots in the upper right and corner.

2. Select "Settings"

3. Select "Privacy" and scroll down to see the clear browsing data option.

Thanks, Rick. But in my case, that was only a small part of what windows calls 'Temporary Internet Files'.

Your problem may be solved if you close all browsers before using Disk Cleanup.

If not, you may wish to consider carefully using BleachBit.

Temporary internet files used to have a physical location you could browse to, and then manually delete with you browser closed.

I'm not sure if it still works that way.

Another thing you can do to clear space is a search for *.tmp, and delete all the files (don't do this while installing windows updates, as that used to create issues).

I'm primarily a mac user now.

They are now refered to as Browser history and Search Engine history, so you have to go to each one that you use and delete them there. I'm not sure how you get the Disk Cleanup count to zero.

My question would be, are any of these 17GB related to using L10 (or previous L9) ? I've not noticed any "left over" internet files on my Win10 after using Logos (but then, I also never gave that much thought)... which folder, other than the default set in win10 system settings, would L10 use for its temporary files while working in use internet mode?

I think you're onto something. I haven't had a need to pay attention to Disk Cleanup in quite a while. It could be that it is now vestigial. When I read Kiyah's post, I ran it on one machine and had the same issue. I have since run it on another machine with the same result.

Based on advice from a third-pary help site, I ran '%temp%' from the Start menu Run command and that showed a folder with very few and small files, which I wasn't allowed to delete. I think that command in the past would have shown the 'Temporary Internet Files' folder, but now I'm thinking MS has changed something internally.

I tried the MS help forum, but as usual, the entity responding to that problem was either a poorly-written bot, a child, or someone lacking rudimentary communication skills. The 'advice' given was just a regurgitation of how to run Disk Cleanup. By the number of users reporting problems, I am confident MS has identified (or caused) the problem and has reasons to hide what has happened. (As in rare instances, maybe it is actually for our own good, as in security vulnerabilites.)

My computer (Win 11) shows a few megabytes in Temporary Internet Files. It also shows the same padlock icon.

Do you suppose that the solution will involve unlocking these files?

I don't think so. But running Disk Cleanup with Logos closed is likely to answer that question.

Based on my own experience, my recommendation to everyone having this issue with Disk Cleanup would be to restart, make sure that everything that uses the Internet is closed, and then run Disk Cleanup.

There is also another free program called Malwarebytes.. they have paid versions also but the free version will get rid of all temporary files....

There is another free cleaner also called CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) It can be found at ... Ccleaner .... Ccleaner will also clean up your register files which I think is a huge help in keeping pc up to speed.

I have both and run each about once a week. I believe they keep my pc humming! [8-|]

This helped significantly. It cleaned up a lot of disk space. But I'm still showing that mysterious 16.9GB in temporary internet files. Do you know what I need to select in BleachBit to get rid of that? I initially ran it on temporary files and cache files. The cache files cleared up the most space.

Please understand that we should not be advertising third party products!
