Factbook - too much!!

Do not hit Enter until you have chosen the correct item in the suggestion list given to you when using the Go/Command box ...

As you can see, entering "open ASV" - unfortunately (annoyingly?) suggests various "Tools" entries above the "Resource" suggestion ... thus when you press "Enter" immediately after entering your text in the Go box, in the above case it would open a Factbook entry in this case.

The supposed "advantage" of the Go box byy making a list of suggestions relating somehow to the text you entered, turns out to be more of an annoyance when a user doesn't wait the few seconds until the suggestions are all there and then selects the correct one for what is wanted.

Taking supposed shortcut via the Go box, instead of using the Library to open a particular resource might turn out to be a detour instead. [;)]

Don't add "Open". If L10 sees an exact title it will put it at the top of the list to open.

The Go Box apparently is not designed to be or act like a reference box in a resource, but rather to use pieces of text entered as a starting point for assembling a list of suggested tools, resources, etc. ... thus, proper use of the Go box involves waiting for that suggestion list tocomplete and then selecting from there where to go.

Sounds like L9 is back (or its designer).

But truth be told, the Command box doesn't like being called the Go box. There's the problem right there (the major change for L10).

Or better yet, stick with Bible study, not Factbook study. "Logos Factbook Software"

This is a question of "training" the Go Box. If you consistently (more than 5 times or so) select to open the bible resource, it will go above the tools. But in general, you are quite right:

I don't use the Go Box for such "shortcut - detours", instead I utilize layouts or favorites shortcuts to open preferred resources. Thus not much "training of the Go Box" to be expected from me.

This box seems to be another item for serious considerations if ever a re-think of the design for more consistency is approached.

It's funny then that I'm pretty sure that's the first time I've entered NRSV into the command bar. I don't use the NRSV, and I don't often use the command bar to open Bibles.

I don't see the point of the Command box.

I can type in "NRSV", wait a few seconds for the menu to populate, then look through the different options to select the correct option.

Or, I can type NRSV into my library pane which whittles it down instantly to three options and have the cover art help in quickly finding the right resource. I can even just open my preferred bible and quickly navigate parallel resources.

Aside from unique commands like updating the active layout or rebuilding my index I've never saved time or clicks by entering anything into the command box when faster options are just below it. Am I missing something?

There's a Factbook icon next door. And Factbook icons everywhere, like little cockroaches (I don't appreciate FL's slice and dice religion ... they need a slice and dice theology factbook entry).

They should hide it, like they do everything else. Improve the clean presentation.

No one forces you to use it. With L10 you can even arrange your screen that you don't have to see it.

I tend to use a minimal amount of "real commands", some of which I even added as shortcuts. I open the reading list tool with the command box (yes, even using the wrong command that does the right thing), and actually I regularly open bibles with it, that's much faster than using the library for that. That's just my MO, yours may totally differ and that's okay.

So I says... self open up American Standard Version.... So, in my Logos 10, I go to "go box" and type "open ASV" and hit enter..... and bingo bango.... I get Factbook!!!! ug!

I am going to be a bit impolite and point out this issue has been addressed with you many times. You need to wait and select the desired command from the selection list. Yes, I am sometimes impatient and do the same thing you do. Remember that EVERY time you press enter on the wrong command (Factbook) you are training your installation to place Factbook higher in the list of options. As long as you feed the application feedback in favor of Factbook, you will have this problem. Once you train yourself, you will train the application and your "problem" will disappear.

If on the other hand you are simply venting your frustration and expect no result, vent away.

I can see users doing certain types of work never using the (universal) command box. On the other hand, while I use layouts for projects, my usual workflow uses neither layouts, favorites, nor shortcuts. Instead, I use the command box very heavily. Why? Because outside projects, my workflow is not repetitive.

But MJ..... if you go through some of the videos about Logos.... they suggest "Open bible" in the command / go box / Logos Menu Search bar....just as I tried to do. Yes I understand about the drop down menu... as I have been chided about it before.... but if it's taught in the videos to do it one way.... Why do I get chided for trying it and for pointing out that it doesn't work? Good Grief!

Maybe it is going to be called "Factbook" later on.... ummmmm????

I tend to use "Open" rather than simply the resource name. It works just fine. I have confidence that someday you will learn to use Factbook when appropriate and understand why Faithlife places it where it does in the priorities. I use it infrequently, but I understand Faithlife's reasoning.

The "Go" Box actually does do that ... before it opens a resource or tool which matches what you enter but isn't what you enter, it provides you with a list of suggestions which match what you enter so that you can specify that item which you really want opened. [:)]

The difficulty for the software is in determining what I want to have opened when I type because it might find several possible items containing what I typed in its reservoir of tools and resources. If what I type produces only one match, there would be only one item to open. If there are 4 matches (e.g. 2 tools, 2 resources), a choice needs to be made which of the 4 items it is that I want opened. In other words, the "Go" box as is may require more information than is typed in the box in one go, so that a 2nd input is needed to open the desired item. For clarification which item should be opened, the software provides the list with the possible choices. The 2nd input is selecting the desired item in that list. If I type something (step 1) and press "Enter" I am actually accepting the item at the top of the possible choices (step 2) ... which may not be what I really wanted, but which I chose to open.
