Gordon Fee was my professor (Exegesis, Biblical Theology, Book of Revelation), mentor, and friend. He combined a passionate love of Jesus with a brilliant academic mind in a way I've not seen in anyone else.
So sorry for your loss, Rosie. What a scholar he was! And what a privilege you enjoyed, having sat at his feet, as it were, and benefitted from his teaching!
A great scholar leaving behind many significant works impacting far more than just academia...
A great theologian in his own right! R.I.P.

As one who is seriously interested in Textual Criticism, this loss is especially felt. He wrote a great deal on it, and was always helpful, even when I didn't agree or simply didn't understand.
Agreed. DrV mentioned on FB the other day about his NT Exegesis book and how good it was
Sorry to hear that Rosie, but in his own words...
Gordon Fee once told his students on the first day of a New Testament class at Wheaton College that they would—someday—come across a headline saying “Gordon Fee Is Dead.”
Do not believe it!” he said, standing atop a desk. “He is singing with his Lord and his king.”

Once again sorry to hear that.

I had the privilege of having Gordon Fee as a professor in Southern California College (now Vanguard University) more years ago than I care to admit. I still make it a point to read his books and commentaries on a regular basis and they have had a lasting effect on my life. He will be greatly missed.
Ouch. That's a loss!!

I was so sorry to hear this news. Milkman, that is such an inspiring story. Thank you for sharing it.
Requiescat in pace.
Hey Brad, Rosie (original post) was the one who begin the thread, not me.

Thanks for sharing this Rosie. I have a great deal of respect for him through the reading of his books. It would have been amazing to be able to sit in a classroom with him.
So sad to hear Rosie, what a great loss for the Church, but such a comfort to know that he is with the Lord!
Reading his commentary on Philippians in the NICNT.
He used to have us sing a different hymn or worship song each day of the Revelation class with text drawn from the Book of Revelation. E.g., "Thou Art Worthy" and "Worthy Is the Lamb" (from Rev 4:11), and many other great ones. He would sing at the top of his lungs with such passionate joy. He taught like a revivalist preacher would preach, with crescendos in his voice when he got excited (which was a lot). He spoke so loud and enthusiastically that even people sitting out in the Atrium (where there's a coffee shop and seating area outside the Regent chapel where Fee was teaching) could listen in and hear most of what he was saying. Sometimes he'd even get tears in his eyes he was so emotional about the content of what he was teaching about.
He also modeled humility. Though he was a world-renowned scholar, to us he was just Gordon. He and his wife came over to my basement apartment when it was my turn to host our community group, which they were in, and they sat with us and opened their lives to us.
There are videos of a number of his classes available through the Regent Bookstore. I'd hold on for a bit, as I'm guessing they'll have a sale in tribute to him, and the prices will be discounted, but you can poke through the catalog here in the meantime: https://www.regentaudio.com/search?q=gordon+fee. Soak up anything he said on on the Holy Spirit, women, the Book of Revelation; those were his strong areas of expertise and passion.
So sad to hear. But so great for him and for his Lord.
Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of his saints
I know "precious can be taken different ways and maybe the psalmist meant something more by it, but surely the sovereign Lord does take delight when one of his children come home to Him.
The Memorial Service for Gordon Fee streamed live today and the recording is available. I’ve cued it up to what I think was the best part (reflections by Melissa Falk, who was in a Bible study led by Gordon, followed by the eulogy by Gordon’s son Mark Fee): https://youtu.be/DrLuu2vTFGo?t=3565
You get to know the man behind the famous scholar a bit through these clips. I wish I could share more of who he was with you all. ❤
That is a great loss. Prayers for his family, friends, and all of those who felt his influence.
Thank-you Rosie. Very nice clips.
