L10: Speed and Indexing
Speed has been touted as one of the selling points of L10, and many Mac users have validated that. Kudos.
I'm a Windows 10 L10 user. I have not seen any speedup from L9 to L10. However, I did notice that in both L9 and L10, whenever the indexer is running, my laptop becomes much less responsive and jittery. The fan turns on loudly, and the laptop becomes hot (which is OK). But the mouse doesn't move immediately and the laptop takes half to 1 second to respond with every movement and keyboard input. This is happening in both Logos and other programs, and usually lasts over the minutes that the indexing is run (depending on how many new resources are downloaded and need to be indexed).
Has any other Windows user noticed the same thing? I haven't seen others mention this on the forum. Just curious, and curious if there's anything we or FL can do to mitigate or work around this?

Speed increase on Macs is only noticeable on Macs with Apple Silicon. I have a Mac mini with Intel 3.2 GHz 6-core i7 and it is slow... They did make a Service Release that made my speed of opening from 45 seconds to 35 seconds - BUT, it did eliminate the beach balls every time I clicked a menu - so that is good.
I do have a Windows machine, too. But, have not upgraded it to L10 yet. I know speed is a constant complaint. But, your situation sounds like something else may be going on. If you can upload logs, there are many on the forums that are good at figuring out the slow down. And, the programmers can use them as well to diagnose an issue for a possible fix.

We benchmarked improvements on Intel Macs. But don't take our word for it; other users agree: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/210716/1228694.aspx#1228694
(As with any performance topic, YMMV, results depend on hardware and usage patterns of the software.)

My log files attached.
Windows 10, i7 CPU, 12GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Logos 10.1 Beta 2.
No issues with Logos opening and closing (less than a minute). Only slows down the whole machine when indexing (especially when it reaches 96% and stays there for a while).

I must say having speed improvement as a selling feature of a L10 sounds silly. Ppl expect speed improvements anyways with updates. To say that it runs faster on a brand new cpu structure is pure evolution of technology. as it should. I can't see much difference on my install, i7 with 16Gb RAM on w10 but then...as far as I can tell, opening and closing are still the same with the irritable wait to sync button.

I run on Windows 11.... was so with L9. I upgraded to L10... I don't have benchmarks to show it... but I do see and feel a definite speed improvement in L10. It's quick and responsive.
And while most do "expect more speed" .... it is nice to actually be able to see it. L10 is the best!

Please don't take my comments badly. I did see an improvement with the first SR. Thanks! But, the folks with M1's seem to indicate a screamingly fast improvement. I am just trying to offer feedback. The beachballs were what was really aggravating. And, that is fixed.
Overall, I appreciate the improvements. The whole app seems very well-rounded.

I think I will refrain from commenting on new releases. I am paying for a service and I believe I should have some sort of privilege to offer feedback. But, it always appears that one has to be a member of "the club" in order to comment. I am a big fan of Logos and recommend to many. But, the forums...well, a lot of times it seems that if you don't have latest and greatest hardware and have Platinum, you are not worthy to comment.

Hi Bill,
please, don'tfeel like needing to refrain from commenting. Just write and comment ... I don't have any "latest and greatest hardware" nor do I own "Platinum", and my library is a mix and match of English and German base packages, some Bronze/Silver ... and if I deem my idea and suggestion worthy to comment, I do so.
Sometimes, my comment is helpful to someone, sometimes others comment on what I wrote and help me to better understand the software and functions, etc. , sometimes I also voice where I have differing and critical ideas ...
Take courage, and join in where you deem you can contribute something.

Thanks, Wolfgang. But, it is just not worth it. I am not going to spend all day on the forums - I have to study. And, I don't need to be canceled in one more place.

It works like this. Let's say you have a flat tire on the way from Jerusalem to Jericho. You feel like the tire shouldn't be low; like the old tire. But it's new and just paid for. A passing Samaritan points out, "Well, other people's tires are just fine."

Hoping that the original topic of this thread will continue to get some attention.

I haven't. I do remember having issues at least similar to what you describe some years ago on devices without SSDs. I imagine you Logos installed on one, though?

Yes, 512GB SSD.

Yes, 512GB SSD.
I am afraid I have no insights. Sorry!

The final stages of Indexing are intense and usually take the same time irrespective of how many resources are being indexed (1 to 20 updated or 10,000 re-indexed). I don't have a slow down problem on my gaming laptop i5-11400H, but it does run hot during the latter stages which take about half the time of yours (with considerably fewer total resources).
So it is important to know what i7 version you have.
