Touch highlight in mobile app
I don't do highlights on desktop or in mobile app. But 2-3 times now, in mobile app, I have touched a word of a verse or passage in a book (I wanted to look up the word) but instead I highlighted it somehow... didn't mean to, but the verse then shows up with a "orange looking background" and try as I may, I cannot undo the highlight in the mobile app. I finally give up make note of it .... and when I'm home on my desktop...then I go to that book and passage and undo the highlight.
What am I missing?

I accidentally do the same thing, and fix it the same way. This can get tricky if the accidental highlight covers up existing notes and highlights.
Here are the steps I use:

This can get tricky
Poor design process at FL. And yesterday I was accidentally highlighting away; never did figure out how to stop it. I do highlight.

Do you have "swipe to highlight" turned on? Otherwise, I am at a loss. Except when I accidentaly "swipe to highlight," I am unaware of ever accidentally creating any highlight, and certainly not on a single word.

I did have "swipe to highlight" on...... thanks for pointing that out as I didn't know about it! I think it is "on" by default. I turned it off. Hope that helps.

Yes. I like compatibility with my Kindle reading. And I can't speak to the cause. I tried out in the margins, etc. It was highlighting up a storm.
Anyway to be honest, I'm mainly on Kindle the last several months. I was just trying to see the famous 'ios clock' that David was angry about. My biggest complaint is actually on the Kindle side .. need a battery along with the clock. Side-note.

That’s partly correct, Ali. It also deletes any notes and highlights under the larger highlight.

This shouldn't delete any notes or highlights under the larger highlight. I am able to delete one highlight while maintaining the other highlights and notes I have within the selected text. Jack, can you confirm this?
Additionally, if you want to delete just one highlight or note you can also do so by clicking on the kebab menu (three vertical dots) next to the individual highlight card and selecting "Delete".

Hello, Ali:
Here is the revised steps to handle (and how to mishandle) this situation.

Sorry it took so long, but I was working through all the permutations in order to give a complete (I hope) answer.

Thanks everyone for helping!

Well, I have tried the Verbum mobile app on my Mini4, my iPhone (recent), an older iPod(!), and my MacM1 (mobile version). They operate the same, whether swipe or not. Touch anything except links ... it highlights a sentence, a menu, and nothing else.
That's just not workable for reading. Too many fingers.
So, I'm pretty much done; removed all the FL mobile apps except the MacM1; keep it to see if life improves. But as before, I've been on the Kindle, with the Verbum desktop for reading FL books.
Another Clue:
Just playing with my remaining mobile (Mac), and I thought it odd, you could touch in the blank margin area, and that would also trigger a highlight. So, I played with just how close to a font-letter you could get, and not trigger. In paragraphs with inserts, right at the font for the 1st line a trigger (nothing in the margin). But below that, anywhere in the blank margin area triggers a highlight.
Same principle at the bottom of a paragraph; a short line margin doesn't trigger a highlight.
I'd have to see their code how they're doing paragraphing and what's underneath that mindlessly triggers. Anyway, I'm off to not-FL-mobile-land.

Being a bit of a simple minded chap I keep 'Smart Text Selection' locked in the off position.
I don't seem to suffer the afflictions mentioned above!

I tried dummying it. It wouldn't dummy. Or was too dummy. I thought for sure, on an iPod, it would dummy. I was wrong.

Sorry, I was confused by your posts. The original post was apparently about highlighting notes being created... highlights which sync across all devices. It seems clear to me now that you are not talking about the same thing. You aren't seeing a "highlight" being created, you are saying that you tap the screen and a text selection is highlighted, providing you with options for what you might want to do with that text selection. Is that right? Is this what you are trying to convey to us? If so, I agree that it is annyoying... especially on the iPhone.

Well, that's not too hard to do!
Yes, I was responding to Xnman's initial problem "I don't do highlights on desktop or in mobile app. But 2-3 times now, in mobile app, I have touched a word of a verse or passage in a book (I wanted to look up the word) but instead I highlighted it somehow... didn't mean to, but the verse then shows up with a "orange looking background".
But looking at your screen copy (and again confusing), I also don't have the bottom part of your screen copy; just the menu. There's some other error involved as well.
So basically (before deleting), touch ... undo ... touch ... undo .... touch ... unodo .... touch .... delete app.

...and you returned L10, right? That might explain why you don't have the menu "cards" at the bottom.
Hard to say. I went back and got a cheapo Academic Standard, and be done with it, which I think is datasets-free, and mobile-free. A long-press still brings up the dictionary, so I'm good (minus mobile apps!).
Appreciate you checking.

which I think is datasets-free, and mobile-free
I think you have to get a reader for it to be dataset free. Check the "about" for the list of datasets you are using. I also see nothing to indicate that it is mobile-free. I think you are confusing FL imposed restrictions with self-imposed restrictions which matters only if third-party newbies read the thread and are misled. Enjoy your technical semi-unplugging... is it a little like forgetting to include a transformer on the line?

Last night I went down the list, plus searched 'mobile' (the usual label). I think it's mobile free. And ditto on the datasets-free; from what I can see, only books. Or the page isn't correct.
Regarding the 'about', that'd be back in 2018 maybe, whatever datasets and mobile features were in the Academic Pro back then.

Actually, just the opposite. Investing in the next (technology) level of sociological theology tracing (aka 'behavioral'). It's sloooooow going; Logos doesn't have much; Kindle to the rescue.
But one major reason I see the FL 'slice and dice' business is at odds with .... well the subject of the Text.

Now, now ... it is safe using the grammatical critical method. You don't risk any conflict with your existing beliefs, and you feel like you've put in a good study.
