Bug or Problem??? -- Abbreviations no longer work

I have several Personal Books in which I use abbreviations of Bible books in them... They all worked in L9 but in L10 the same abbreviation does not work...

For example.... if you go to Bible Book Abbreviations (a Logos website) and look at abbreviations that they suggest to use... which I did and used) it shows I had Exo for Exodus Exod, Exo, Ex. So I used Exo (I like the 3 letter abbreviations for Bible Books)... Welll..... it worked in L9 but does not work in L10. So I had to change my Personal Book to Ex for Exodus... then it worked... but now no longer 3 letter abbreviation.

Also in Bible Book Abbreviations again... I used Jud for Jude (in keeping with 3 letter abbreviation) in keeping with 3 letter abbreviation, and it worked in L9 but does not work in L10. Again Bible Book Abbreviations shows Jude Jude, Jud, Jd.

Shouldn't the abbreviations ALWAYS stay the same? Why the change?

Am I going to have to change my abbreviations in my Personal Books every time a new version comes out?

And this adds confusion in that If Bible Book Abbreviations is not right...then how do we know what abbreviations to use?

I have not experienced the problem that you are having with book abbreviations. The list of acceptable abbreviations is also available in the Help document. I used that list to create a test file that shows which abbreviations are or are not recognized by the PBB. Your problematic abbreviation works in this context. Therefore, we would need a sampling of your source file to trace back what non-standard encoding you have,

For example.... if you go to Bible Book Abbreviations (a Logos website) and look at abbreviations that they suggest to use... which I did and used) it shows I had Exo for Exodus Exod, Exo, Ex. So I used Exo (I like the 3 letter abbreviations for Bible Books)... Welll..... it worked in L9 but does not work in L10. So I had to change my Personal Book to Ex for Exodus... then it worked... but now no longer 3 letter abbreviation.

Also in Bible Book Abbreviations again... I used Jud for Jude (in keeping with 3 letter abbreviation) in keeping with 3 letter abbreviation, and it worked in L9 but does not work in L10. Again Bible Book Abbreviations shows Jude Jude, Jud, Jd.

I have no problems using Exo and Jud. Provide examples of how you use them in a PB.

You didn't share your file, or the settings you used to compile (very important: did you use English or any other, e.g. Spanish?), so at the moment we can't really help you find where it goes wrong.

I could replicate the problem in a small docx file compiled into a PB.
Here is the sample docx file => 1033.testing abbreviations.docx

Side note: I used ":" and also "," as chapter - verse dividers since I have tried with my language set to English and also to German. Now, when compiling as "English / Monograph" the compiled PB did not recognize the "Exo" version, compiling as "German / Monograph" the links were all recognized.

Interestingly this English Monograph compiles different when you run the UI in English as compared to running the UI in German (which then will detect the Exo reference in the English-language resource!)

1. The file language is German (as received):

When compiled as a German monograph all bible references were recognised.

When compiled as an English monograph the Exo and Jud references were not recognised, but the BibleESV references were recognised.

2. When I set the file language to English (AUS):

When compiled as a German monograph all bible references were recognised.

When compiled as an English monograph the Exo and Jud references were not recognised, but the BibleESV references were recognised!

So there is no difference with file language, only the compiled language makes a difference (compiling as Bible Notes was the same).

I have no problems with Exo and Jud because they work in my English Logos/Verbum interface and with Bible datatype links in a PB. So the workaround is to use datatype links with labels for these unrecognised bible references. Particularly as I note that a German PB does not recognise Ecc, SOS, Lam, Mat, Jdg.

We need the actual docx file you use for the PB.

But you will have problems with Jud and Exo as I mentioned above. Try Jude or Ex

The important thing we need to know next is "HOW you use the list". If it was just a list to explain the Abbreviations you use I would not expect the list to include 1:1 e.g. why not state John = Joh or Joh = John?

I could understand that you use Joh 17:3 where I would use Jn 17:3. But you will now have to use [[Jud 16 >> Bible:Jud 16]] as this will display Jud 16 in your PB, but the reference will work!

It does work for others. We simply need to work our way down to how you made it not work for you. So far, playing with your file, I have narrowed down the possibilities but not yet honed in on the actual problem ... I may need to load some additional software on this computer.
