Why does this search argument fail?
(NOT section:sentence:"Declarative Sentence") AND (NOT section:sentence:"Interrogative Sentence") AND (NOT section:sentence:"Imperative Sentence") gets an error message between the opening ( and NOT. I am trying to see what allowance FaithLife has made for exclamatory sentences and sentence fragments by finding any text not covered by the three sentence types.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

I don't believe you can start a search (or part of a search) with the NOT operator.
In that sense, it's less of a general negator but an exclusion from an already determined set of results.

* NOT (section:sentence:"Imperative Sentence" OR section:sentence:"Interrogative Sentence" OR section:sentence:"Declarative Sentence") is processed, but shows no results on John 1. It does not seem feasible to run this search on bigger chunks of Scripture since it is very slow.

* NOT (section:sentence:"Imperative Sentence" OR section:sentence:"Interrogative Sentence" OR section:sentence:"Declarative Sentence")
I'm not sure it will provide the results you expect.
* NOT IN (sentence:"Imperative Sentence" OR sentence:"Interrogative Sentence" OR sentence:"Declarative Sentence") gave 4 words in SBLGNT that were not tagged as a sentence.
Not too sure about LHB results: 15363 in 10293 verses. They appear to be highlighted in the bible when you query the 3x sentence types and ESV only shows gaps for inserted words.

I tried it with LHB (slightly modified):
* NOT term:(sentence:"Imperative Sentence" OR sentence:"Interrogative Sentence" OR sentence:"Declarative Sentence")
and it returned zero results. This may confirm MJ's hypothesis as omitting a sentence type will return results.
.
The term: ensures all results have the same highlight colour.and section: is not needed in bibles (and shortens the query!).
