Pillar commentary revised editions

I returned the revised editions of the Letters of John and James when they were launched as the pre-pub prices seemed steep for the level of revision - especially given my limited budget.

These 2 volumes are now $9.99 each in the Black Friday sale. I try to keep a tight rein on my expenditure, so I'd be interested to hear from those who've used and compared the revised editions with the originals to know if they feel the revisions offer anything substantially different.

I can see some reviews that lead me to believe the James volume may have more additional material than the Letters of John volume.

I usually do not purchase revised editions, but Pillar is my top NT commentary set and the prices were good. Since I just got them I cannot give you a comprehensive comparison, but below are comparison of the TOC that may give you some idea. As I get through them more, I can post back. The newer volume is on the right.

It almost seems crazy not to buy any at $9.99, but I'm still wary that I'll be disappointed.

I find it interesting that neither of these 2 lists of recommended commentaries have revised their recommendation to the revised edition of James. Maybe an oversight but Denver normally update their recommendations to an updated version.
