Early Church Fathers (Logos) vs CCEL

I'm considering purchasing the Early Church Fathers series on Logos. Yet they are also available to access for free via CCEL. I expect the text is the same, but CCEL has done a lot of work formatting their versions of the ECF's for electronic use and I'm wondering how Logo's version compares. Can anyone who has used both comment on the differences? There isn't a 'see inside' preview available for the logos version.

Logos is just as good, with better searching and the ability to access these books through things like Factbook. But don't buy the Early Church Fathers series. Scroll down just a little bit further on the page, and you will see lots of $80 legacy libraries that include it plus lots of other resources. With dynamic pricing, you will pay even less.

Well, first I haven't used CCEL. But there's really no comparison to be made (beyond free vs not free).

In my standard layout (a window each for OT and NT), I have panels for the early church leaders and how they interpreted the Bible. Included are CitedBy's for the 'Early Church Fathers', the 'Ancient Christian Commentary' (ACC), and finally the Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs.

But the ECF series is quite good, in both inclusion of early writers, and being cross-ref'd to the Bible. That (for me) makes the Logos version the only choice. I especially like the fact, that the writers often addressed the Old Testament, along with the New Testament, both being cross-ref'd.

This is true, but I think it would be a tremendous amount of work to get things like "Didache 5" to work correctly. For just reading, the Scripture references would be imported automatically, but the milestones and references to other documents in footnotes or the introductions would need to be done manually. If those things are valuable to you, then a legacy library is probably a bargain compared to the many hours of work it would take to set up.

Sounds like the logos version is the way to go. I'll check out those legacy libraries Justin, and thanks for the 'cited by' tip DMB, I'll put that to good use.
