Basic Maps Question

Greetings all. New Logos user. I am using Logos 10 and ended up here because I enjoy maps and was looking for something good to have easy linked atlas access. I have the Holman bible Atlas and the Carta Bible Atlas and have them linked to my bible of choice. I had assumed that both of those would follow what I was reading in the bible but appears they do not. The atlas from the tools menu does appear to follow but seems to be an online version that pops up in another window. Not exactly what I was hoping for.

Does this seem normal? Are there better options for an in depth atlas that does a good job following?

Atlases tend to be by subject or time period. By themselves, they don't link well to Bible verses. The tool Atlas, as you indicated, does, but is online only (allowing it to work with desktop, mobile, and the web app).

Choice 1: Cited By Panel

If you're up to it, The Cited By tool allows what you want (if Atlas is a no). Essentially it scans books you have (Homan or Carta, etc), to find references to what it's linked to (a Bible, as an example).

- Open a Cited By panel

- Select 'Add' and choose your book(s) (eg Holmans)

- Link the panel to your Bible

It then follows your Bible, looking for any references. Not perfect, but pretty close. No maps display: only finds them for you.

Choice 2: Biblical Places Tool (part of Factbook also)

- Easier: just link it to your Bible

- Shows media and maps that it can find, as you move thru the Bible

- Can't be directed to specific books (eg Holmans).

What I Do

- I tag all my maps and charts resources (a bunch!)

- I have a CitedBy panel in my layout (you can have several, not just maps) that points to my tagged maps and charts books

- When I get to a section that I need a map or chart, I just check my CitedBy to see what he found.

Hello, thanks for the prompt response. I followed you up to the add part. When I click add in the cited by panel I get a drop down list but don's see Holman or Carta bible atlas.

That's because it only lists Collections, Series + Tags and Ratings, so you need to have a Collection. A rule like type:Atlas will include the Holman and Carta resources.

OK, my fault. A recent change.

In that case (if want to use tags, instead of collections; easier):

- go to your library, select your map books (eg Holman, Carta)

- then click on the little Info button (top-right)

- scroll down until you see 'Add Tag' and create a tag (eg 'Maps' or similar)

In CitedBy > Add, your tag will show up as a 'mytag:Maps' (as an example). If not, you may need to restart Logos, for it to see your new tag.

And if a problem, please ask ... Logos is fun, though complicated.

Yes, Logo's appears to be complicated. I am part of the tech team at church but cant even figure out my bible
