Tip-ish: Automatic Searches

I don't know if this is of any use; I didn't know. Took me a while to turn it off!

1. If you link a search panel to your resource, when you click on any word, it searches for it in the search panel, and as an extension, highlights it 'everywhere' in your resource.

2. I'm not sure the value of this in general. Accidentally clicking on 'of' successfully finds all the 'of's' in your library!

3. I can see value, in original languages. Maybe a specialized search panel that automatically searches a clicked-on hebrew or greek word (without needing an Info panel, etc, and linked to analytical lexicons). Or a specialized theology search panel, as an example. Maybe a specialized dictionary for quick translation.

And then, maybe I'm the last to notice this!

I do not use this, but I do link my Bible to a lexicon and then one click and it opens to lemma in either a RI or OL text. Using multiview I actually have a few lexicons that open on a single click. I also use the Info window to show how different Bible translate the word, so it is in my workspace as well.

If I want to run a search I just triple click.

Thank you both - these are really useful. Having the lexicon and search panel linked makes it much more likely that I'll actually look a bit more deeply at what I'm studying. Clicking on a word in NA28 so that I get a search of all occurrences of the word and the BDAG entry at the same time saves time and draws me into looking more carefully at the meanings of words and the other places where they're used. It's also a great way of being able to search without having to remember the lemma:g: etc syntax or right-clicking and searching. I've saved it as a named layout.

For info - this depends on the state of the Prefer Lemmas toggle in Program Settings.

My memory is this principle goes back to the early days of Logos, especially Bibles > Lexicons. Maybe L5 or so. I had forgotten, and happy especially with John's (Fidel) comment.

I wonder at how much is forum-memory forgotten ... points about the Lexham Hebrew, and so forth.

Added:

In my main OT layout, I linked a syriac analytical next to my Leiden Peshitta (largely untagged). After years of right-clicking (I don't read syriac AT ALL), works great!

while many find the multi view limiting, I like that I can hide it and then when I want it I can display it. My preferred Bible has it set as follows:

By clicking on the multi view icon I can display the ESV, LHB, LES and Logos LXX. Double clicking on the LXX brings up my preferred, using advanced priority settings, LXX Lexicon also in multi view with several other LXX lexicons.

I like the way Logos allows me to get as much information as I want with a few clicks as I read the text.

Under Tools, it is the panel named Information.

There is a lot going on in that layout. MJ has posted lots of tips posted that cover many of the techniques used. She can direct you to them. If you have questions, post back. Logos is very powerful, but has a bit of a learning curve. Enjoy your journey,.

The L10 series entries are listed as L/V 10 Tip of the Day (logos.com) so you can play catchup. A new post is made nearly daily based upon some question or tip in the forums. This parallels how I learned Logos/Verbum more than the formal courses do. There are also series for early versions in which most of the material is still accurate.
