Automatic Citations Not Working, AGAIN
I have had this problem several times now, and I've posted 3 posts about it.
For some reason, copy and paste isn't creating automatic footnote citations in the destination Microsoft Word document for me anymore.
Last time this happened, the feature randomly started working again one day without me changing anything, but now it has randomly stopped working again, and again, I haven't changed anything.
I am a working seminary student with a family! I have to write a lot of papers, with deadlines. I depend on this feature to save time. It is so FRUSTRATING that it's not dependable anymore!
I spend a lot of money on Logos Bible software, money that maybe I shouldn't have spent. Why can't this just work??? Why does this keep happening?
Can somebody please talk to Microsoft and figure it out?
Or, if I am doing something wrong, can somebody help me fix my problem more permanently?

Are you using Smart tags? If so, the feature has been deprecated by Microsoft for years. Users have managed to keep it working with tweaking required by software updates by either Faithlife or Microsoft.
Are you using the standard Copy & Paste (Microsoft clipboard) functionality? If so, the citation creation is set in Program settings. I've not had this method fail to create footnotes. I have confused myself re: endnotes vs. footnotes.
Are you using CBV? I have little experience with this feature but have not seen complaints regarding the creation of footnotes.

Thx for the reply MJ.,
I am just using copy and paste. Do you mean the Program settings for Logos or for Word? I don't know what CBV is. All I know is that automatic citations used to work, and now they don't anymore.

Ok
1.Are you on Mac or PC?
2. Are you pasting more than 4 or 5 words?
3. If you paste into a Note do you get a citation
4. What version of MS Word?

Hi Dave, thx for your follow up,
1. I'm on Mac. Macbook Pro 14 inch running MacOS Ventura 13.1.
2. No, I tried pasting two words, still didn't work.
3. No, even when I paste into an apple note there is no citation.
4. Word version 16.68

Is Copy Citations enabled in Program Settings?
2. No, I tried pasting two words, still didn't work.
The point here is that citations won't be created if just a few words are being copy /pasted - I forget the exactl value but it's roughly copy / pasting fewer than 20 characters won't produce a citation.

You won't get a citation unless you copy more than 4-5 words
3. No, even when I paste into an apple note there is no citation.
So you do not get a citation when you paste into Logos Notes?
4. Word version 16.68
Must be Mac versioning. Is it the latest?

Thanks everyone.
Been busy with the holidays, and I had already finished my paper.
So yes, you're right, it doers work. I wasn't copying enough words for a citation to be created.
I don't remember there being a word number minimum in the past; I feel like this is a new thing, but perhaps I am wrong about that.
Why is there a minimum at all? Seems arbitrary to me. Academic papers use small quotations all the time.
Is there a way to control this minimum? To decrease it? Or to control which sources you don't want citations for (like my Bible, for instance)?
Thanks for the help everyone.

You can only opt for citations to be copied or not copied in Program Settings.
