Are you kidding me? The new highlighting system now BLOCKS me from navigating?!
After the update, when I press on any verse, it now brings up a new menu with all kinds of options like 'share', 'copy', 'compare', etc. Which is problematic, because I don't always want that to happen when I press on a page. And unfortunately, there is no area to press on the page that doesn't seem to be attached to a particular verse, even spaces that appear blank.
And since the menu and all navigation options aren't always there, this means there is no way at all to navigate away from the text. I can't search. I can't open other tabs. I can't even bring up the chapter navigation. The only thing that still works is swiping left or right to move through the text. My only escape from this is by furiously pressing backspace to go back to the search tab I have open, which thankfully has the menu.
I've tried every option I can. The only thing that works is going into up-and-down scrolling, which I hate, but opens the menu whenever you scroll up. Why would they do this? Why can't I just keep using my app without fearing that the owners will break basic functionality with their needless updates?

Yawn.
The developers LOVE it. It's part of FL's plan for a readerless mobile app. I deleted all my FL mobiles (except my Mac test version to see if it got fixed).

At the top is a title bar. You can tap on that to bring up the menus.
If you are not in scrolling mode, (using page-turn instead), you can swipe down with a single finger to bring up the menus. This is what I most often use.
I am not fond of the this change, but I do like the new highlighting changes that were made.

Still think the highlighting is annoying and pointless.

That doesn't seem to work for me. I am on Android. Tapping the title bar works fine.

This actually also works when in scrolling view. Take a look at this forum post for more information on the new selection menu and logic.

What is a “readerless” mobile app?
I realize with app interfaces, people have their own preferences, but for my money the new mobile apps are an improvement in every way. The gap of between what I can do on desktop and not do on mobile has substantially narrowed with this release. The layout system is better. Search is better. Tools like draw on screen, multiple tiles on iPad, read aloud mode, sermon manager, canvas, and the like are tremendous study / workflow improvements. The UI is much smoother, more responsive, more organized, and more intuitive. And the new 10.1 release is even better. Not trying to sell you. Just offering another perspective to consider.

You might have to download the Denise Translation app to be certain, but I'm pretty sure she's describing a mobile app that is so wonky and bug-ridden that no one is willing to use it...hence, "readerless".

We bought a new car ... better than ever. Features we just love. But the GPS is wonky. And 8 months later, we haven't mastered the AC controls. Our next one won't be the same brand.
Just illustrating ... if you're ok with the bugs, and love wonky designs, go for it.

As stated, on my Android phone, even on version 22, the "Quick scroll or "flick" to bring back the maximized title bar and main navigation bar at the bottom" does not work when not in scrolling mode.
