Author search does not find monographs
Searching by author finds all kinds of articles from journals, dictionaries etc., but not the most obvious matches, for example in monographs.

I think I can - but I didn't think the problem was in the library. As I understood Jan, the books search seemingly runs against an author field inside resources which is different from the author metadata in the library, thus not finding books authored by someone. Try Luther to avoid potential issues with D.A. Carsons first name spelling.

You can specify type:monograph to find those:
1. in Search enter it into the "All Books" box
2. in Library enter it alongside author:xxxxx (with a space between).

Your Search panel and your Library panel are doing two entirely different things. The Search panel is searching the content of the books, while the Library panel is searching the book metadata (information about the book, like title, author, etc).
It's not entirely clear from your description what you are trying to accomplish, but here's an example of the change you would want to make:
Assuming you want to search all books by Carson for the word "intolerance". Then you would want to click "Alle Werke" just above the search box. There type "Autor:"Carson, D.A.", then select the option at the top indicating some number of matching resources. Then type intolerance in the search box and run the search.

I know. I added the second pane in order to demonstrate that the search doesn't cover all results. Thanks for your help so far. My aim was to find all occurrences of D.A. Carson writing about intolerance. It's getting there.
I now need two searches to find everything. It's a workaround like that. However, maybe it's still possible to do in one go, so further suggestions are welcome.
The first search finds journals, dictionaries etc. with articles by Carson (same as above screenshot). The second one finds resources authored or edited by Carson. (New search syntax from Andrew.) Also, this search includes results not by Carson, e.g. the NBC results. Carson is editor of the NBC, but the actual articles are written by others. In this specific case it's very easy to go through everything manually. In other cases it'd be a complete mess, whenever the author being searched is the editor of a very big number of resources (R.C. Sproul comes to mind.)

Not so. Carson is the author of 2 contributions/articles as a Search for author:"D. A. Carson" will show.
But you won't find all occurrences of the word with author:"D. A. Carson" intolerance because they may be in different search articles (usually denoted by headings) e.g. "The importance of Godliness" (p.19) is given as the article in a search for author:"D. A. Carson" but the TOC will show that his contribution is called "Approaching the Bible" (pages 1-19). A search for author:"D. A. Carson" interpretation will not find the word in the previous article on p.18!
So you will have to create a Collection of resources with some articles authored by Carson and search for the word in that collection. Then use the resource Information page to check that the article was authored by Carson!

Either that, or open a third search pane with your suggested syntax, and then manually matching those articles by the desired author with the articles with the desired word (and hoping that both lists of results are small).
