Since when did FL collect Canadian sales tax?
Is this legit?
Anyone else experience this?
Canadian sales tax for U.S. sellers (avalara.com)
I am hesitant to give the av-sters my cookies, said co. being a private firm and all, but thanks for your efforts, MJ.
Any Canadians out there: when did this collection effort out there begin?
Shalom Scooter!
Are you living in British Columbia? If so, I would guess Logos has started collecting taxes on July 1:
[quote]
Starting July 1, 2022, purchasers will pay the PST to the marketplace facilitator when the goods, software or taxable services are purchased. Before July 1, 2022, purchasers who bought goods, software or taxable services through an online marketplace, in many cases, had to pay PST directly to us because the marketplace facilitator and the marketplace seller were not required to collect the PST. These changes make PST collection for online marketplaces similar to how PST is collected at a physical store.

I live further east than BC.; looks like all provinces are now thus regulated. Thank you, HJ, for this government page. So, the tax man cometh on silver stead.
I don't know if government people in Canada, are similar to government people in that country south of Canada. But here, after the auto-collection was turned on, the city was rolling in the big bucks. Coffers overwhelmed. Never a hint, maybe back-off the taxes a bit?
Mostly all levels of govt. tax at a high rate. We just roll with their [in]flow. As Bugs Bunny said: 'On with the show, this is it.'
I too have just noticed the tax being charged. I just reviewed my orders and found out that Logos started charging tax to me on December 1, 2022. I live in Ontario so we are now being charged 13% which is the HST.
When you consider that Canadians already pay almost 40% on the exchange rate, that tax increases our bill by over 50%. That is why these days I don't hardly buy anything from Logos unless it is discounted by at least half. I'm thankful that I already have an excellent library.

Yes, I just noticed it starting recently too. I looked back and saw that it had started on Nov 29. They have also, it turns out, been charging me a very interesting amount for shipping & handling: — [:D] And prior to sales tax being charged, that is the amount that shows up in that field for all prior transactions.
My last purchase was in August. So, the tax is another reason to shine the brake lights on purchases. I have a good library to read, so will be selective. going forward.

That's a very interesting charge, Rosie. Nov 29, aye?

Yeah, and it appears to be charged in euros. I wonder what the equivalent to â euros is in dollars? [;)]

Now that I enlarged your picture, I see the euro sign. That is a hoot!
I suspect that we might see this going forward for others. Governments do seem to take delight in taxing everything that moves even if it is digital.
I just saw this on a purchase.......its been a while since I bought anything. Surprised....
I certainly hope that doesn’t start happening in the US… though administrations have been proposing taxing digital for years.
I imagine Logos has no choice but to comply with the laws of whatever country it does business in though.

We in Canada also have exchange rate headwind. Today it costs 1.34 CAD to buy 1 USD.
I shop very carefully.

[Y] I would suspect Logos' Canadian sales are way down from what they used to be.

I give all potential purchases a rating: A+ A B etc. Thus, I justify need.
Then, I factor. in price + page count. This can downgrade a book.
A sale price can boost a rating previously downgraded,
I'm sure many so approach purchases.
