All the People in the Bible: An A–Z Guide to the Saints, Scoundrels, and Other Characters in Scripture

Trying to use this resource but finding it difficult. First of all we have the ability to link it like many other resources but assume that really does not work. I can see why it wouldn't but not sure why non link-able resources even have a link option.

There is a search box at top and when you I use the search it skips past all the content in the book to an alphabetical list at the end of the document.

So first question is, am I doing something wrong?  and secondly is there a better people resource or way to do the person lookup.  I have currently reverted back to the Factbook for now.

First of all we have the ability to link it like many other resources but assume that really does not work. I can see why it wouldn't but not sure why non link-able resources even have a link option.

The linking of resources works by way of the index (most useful surely with the bible index), here the English Headwords. I assume it will work in appropriate usage scenarios, but most often there's no need to link type:encyclopedia resources. If you wanted to compare the entries to biblical people in various resources, linking them could become handy (so all automatically flow to e.g. "Omri").

There is a search box at top and when you I use the search it skips past all the content in the book to an alphabetical list at the end of the document.

This depends on whom you are looking for (note to make sure you are using the locator bar box and/or the inline search which is not the same).

This resource is organized in the way that you have two long lists of people, one with longer entries, one with shorter ones, but a complete list, which gives spelling etc. Very obscure people will be treated only in the second one, less obscure ones have two entries (like Omri) and you can select which one to go to. If you end up in the second list, you can see from a bold blue entry that there's a treatment in the first (e.g. Archelaus has an entry in the second list, but the bold blue headword shows there's a linked entry in the first part: his treatment in the Herod family)

is there a better people resource or way to do the person lookup

There are lots of people resources, and there are treatment of people in general encyclopedia resources such as bible dictionaries, so you could get a lot of suggestions here. The Factbook should work (and should point you to your other resources) - you'd need to give more criteria what you are looking for in terms of "better", e.g. more quick and simple lookup or more scholarly treatment?

I'm guessing that you already know this but I just want to make sure.

If you are looking for the main entry of a person, you can open the table of contents and navigate to them.

If you are looking for every instance of someone in the resource, you can use "Inline Search". I'm not sure if that is the search box you are talking about or not. Below are a few pictures to show what I am talking about.

Edit: My arrow on the first picture is a little low. Go up one. [:)]

Thanks for asking the question....  this is a resource I have but have never used... Thanks for bringing it up.

First - I typed in "Hosea" in the search box.... and went to Hosea.... then highlighted Hosea and clicked the "kebob" (the 3 dots in the upper right) and clicked on "copy location as L4 link" then went to my notes, typed in "Hosea" and highlighted it... then clicked on the "link" (the chain icon in the menu..... then pasted the link into the window that popped up.... and click save.

Then closed the resource..... and clicked on the now blue (Hosea) and the resource opened to Hosea....

So the link worked in Notes..... which tells me it should work everywhere links can work....

    What am I missing?

xn = Christan  man=man -- Acts 11:26 "....and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch".

Thanks for all the replies.  Using the hamburger menu (top left) had the same results for me but turns out it was because my drop down box had sentence selected and not paragraph.  Once I changed to paragraph then it worked.  Guess I need to read a little more about that function as it does not make sense.

I just like a good people resource to jog my memory. In my Life Application Study Bible I have the people section flagged so I can check out who's who when needed.

Tried it without success and discovered

Basically the Brill Greek lexicon and the LSJ lexicon, despite being linked don‘t keep in synch

This is actually not a bug. We don't currently support headword panel linking.
