BUG:Three Group Search sends Logos into an endless loop
Logos 22.0 Mac OS 13.0.1
Initiated search from MP Seminars search examples notebook (purpose, reason, goal) WITHIN 5 words (cross, death, crucifixion) WITHIN 5 words (Jesus, Christ, Lord) which Logos 10 converted to
term:(purpose OR reason OR goal) WITHIN 5 WORDS term:(cross OR death OR crucifixion) WITHIN 5 WORDS term:(Jesus OR Christ OR Lord)
The search has never finished. Gave up, terminated the search, quit Logos, and archived logs (thank you for the LogosLoggingUtility).

The converted search worked fine for me in Logos 22.0.23 (RC-2) on Windows 10. So did this one (without the word 'term'):
(purpose OR reason OR goal) WITHIN 5 WORDS (cross OR death OR crucifixion) WITHIN 5 WORDS (Jesus OR Christ OR Lord)

(purpose, reason, goal) WITHIN 5 words (cross, death, crucifixion) WITHIN 5 words (Jesus, Christ, Lord)
If that was the original, it would not be converted in Verbum v22.0 because the underlined words should be upper case (although it seemed to work in Logos 9). Anyway, I could not get it converted in this (beta) Verbum.
Logos 10 converted to
term:(purpose OR reason OR goal) WITHIN 5 WORDS term:(cross OR death OR crucifixion) WITHIN 5 WORDS term:(Jesus OR Christ OR Lord)
That worked OK in my Verbum and I can't see why it did not work for you.

The converted search worked for me on L10 Mac MBP M1 Ventura. I am not running the beta if that helps.

Thanks Jack for the details. I got a case written and working on replicated the scenario on my end. Will post back once a resolution has been added.

Just redid the search following Dave's note that "words" should have been capitalized. The conversion did capitalize "words", in the initial post and in this rerun. This time, the search returned results instantly, with hits in 11 resources.
UPDATE: The above search was conducted with fields set to "Heading Text, Large Text." When these were cleared, the search has not completed after several minutes. Will leave it running for awhile longer.
Looking at the Logos.log—Don't understand the repeated "checking for new license" messages beginning @ 16:57:56. Quit Logos and archived logs.

It is normal. I think it is checking for new resources.

Makes sense. Thanks Dave.

IT IS NOT A BUG—Just an impatient operator.
Restricted the search to Journals only. Left the search running when I went away from the iMac yesterday. The search was initiated at 17:13 and completed at 18:22—having found hits in 159 articles in 154 resources—one hour and 9 minutes to do this three group search in 3,912 journals. Afraid to search my entire library [:P]

I have almost 9k resources, about 56% downloaded, 44% in the cloud. I ran the search in the book tab on my whole library and it took 1 minute 46 seconds. I got results with a message at the bottom saying "Some online results didn't arrive" with the suggestion to search downloaded books only. (see screen shot). When I searched downloaded books only (about 5k resources) the search took 18 seconds.
Your search seems to be taking way too long if you only searched 3,912 journals.

Interesting. After reading your post, I ran the same search on all downloaded resources (16,902). It completed in 25 minutes. I quit Logos, cleared the logging folder and reran the Journals search—completed search in less than half-minute. Don't understand why earlier searches took so long, but search seems to be working better now.
