BUG: Reindexing failing (sort of)

I keep a minimal sized library on this installation meaning that I frequently download or remove from device. Often the indexing afterward is erroneous but I have not been able to find a pattern or a proof case to report a specific Bug. What I did:

  • created a small collection of bible concordance (thematic/topical) resource
  • added a collection to a custom guide that used that new collection
  • ran and realized that there were some resources I'd need to add
  • download 8 resources
  • remove from this device 1 resource
  • wait for indexing to complete
  • refresh guide and find most resources are not showing
  • build a search to verify; it has the same problem
  • run rebuild index
  • refresh guide and find it lacks the new resources
  • close application and reopen
  • refresh guide which now looks correct
  • rerun search which shows the resource removed from device
  • close application and reopen
  • Nope although the resource shows as not downloaded it still appears in the search results

    There are a few things:

    1.

    • created a small collection of bible concordance (thematic/topical) resource
    • added a collection to a custom guide that used that new collection

Any guide, as long as it uses that collection?

    • download 8 resources
    • remove from this device 1 resource
    • wait for indexing to complete

Your logs for Verbum and the Indexer are 10 days old.

We need to see logs of this indexing.

Did the removed resource appear in Devices > Not on this device (a bug that I have reported)?

    • refresh guide and find most resources are not showing
    • build a search to verify; it has the same problem
    • run rebuild index
    • refresh guide and find it lacks the new resources
    • close application and reopen
    • refresh guide which now looks correct

I suspect the problem here is fixed by closing and reopening the app i.e. can you verify these steps without the rebuild?

The removed resource should now appears in Devices > Not on this device.

    • rerun search which shows the resource removed from device
    • close application and reopen
    • Nope although the resource shows as not downloaded it still appears in the search results

My tests show that your first "Close app and reopen" removes it from the collection and it does not appear in Search results (it also showed in Devices > Not on this device).

The right-click status of "Download" showed just after removal but it still appeared in the collection and search results BEFORE "Close app and reopen".

re: logs this is log directory after clearing it after I zipped the contents: No Verbum file! I'll tackle the other items later this evening.

No Verbum file! I'll tackle the other items later this evening.

You have to remember to hold the CTRL key down when restarting Verbum. When doing multiple restarts, you also have to rename the Verbum and VerbumIndexer logs before restarting.

I think this is a phenomenon I reported here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/203672/1186680.aspx#1186680

The indexer actually worked but Search didn't recognize it until after I restarted. Philana created a case for it.

    • rerun search which shows the resource removed from device
    • close application and reopen
    • Nope although the resource shows as not downloaded it still appears in the search results

I also asked about this phenomenon here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/212728/1240182.aspx#1240182

You have to remember to hold the CTRL key down when restarting Verbum.

I haven't had to do this for years - I have continuous create logs. Yes, I removed (rather than renamed) before restarting but after zipping.

Kiyah, I suspect you are right -- I ran into the problem you'd reported
