combine various commentaries of different Bible books together to act as a single full-bible resourc

I've got over 8000 resources from 25 years of Logos but it's been a LONG time since I last used Logos.

I remember in a much earlier incarnation, the Logos engine allowed users to create a "SERIES" by specifying multiple separate versified commentaries into one pseudo-full-bible commentary. That series would be named and would act like a single resource ... it could be loaded into a tab and linked to a Bible in another tab, and as I moved around from Gen to Rev etc, the composite-series commentary would track with me, just as if it came from Logos originally as a full-Bible commentary.

But now that seems to be impossible. Phone support couldn't help. I did a search here and got an anwer from 2012 about Logos 4. I'm on L10 Gold but have multiple decades of prior purchases.

PLEASE HELP! I am somewhat desperately hoping that L10 is not "dumber" than L3 ... that I can still somehow do this incredibly useful thing.

You choose a link set for the bible and one commentary that is part of a series e.g. Tyndale New Testament Commentaries, New American Commentary, New Covenant Commentary Series. Use Library to tell you what resources are part of a Series:-

e.g. link your bible to one volume of the 43 New American Commentary series.

Well, you have all the info you need, you just need to apply it.

The books need to be in the same series. You can use ones already existing or create your own. For example: Open a volume from Word Biblical Commentary.
Make sure to set your bible and commentary pane to the same Link Set (i.e. "A" or "B")

Once you have done that, your commentary will follow your bible as long as there is a commentary in that series for the active passage.

Sorry but that's not what I was getting at. I want to *create* a Series out of, let's say, 66 separate versified individual-Bible-book commentaries (all of which I own and have downloaded) ... the resulting Series would be unique, not something I could buy. It would be accessible AS IF the various separately purchased commentaries were part of a Logos-linked series-set.

As I said in the OP, this *used to be possible* in a much earlier incarnation of Logos ... it was incredibly helpful even with a measly thousand or so resources in my Library ... now I've got 8000+ and am trying to organize them into useful chunks.

Select your resources in Library, click the Information button and scroll down to the Series heading:

filter Library for commentaries
select the ones for your series
click the Information button
click this text and type your series name

Note that you will likely overwrite the original series name of many volumes and render those series almost useless i.e. you can have a "super" series of the best volumes for each book of the bible, but their original series will be depleted.

Also beware of the same book of the Bible being in different volumes as you will have to prioritize the volume you intend to use above your "super" series (perhaps using Advanced Prioritization to select the bible book).

I use a collection named 'prioritized commentaries' which seems similar to what you're suggesting. I then link this collection to the bible I'm studying and use parallel resource sets function to move through the prioritized collection.

More correctly, you link the bible to a resource/volume from that Collection and parallel resource sets will enable you to choose different volumes for the same book of the bible. If you select a different book in the linked Bible the Series linking will select a different commentary volume if necessary e.g. TNTC Mark to TNTC Acts. So collections and series are complementary as a well chosen/selected collection can enable you to move between your "top" volumes for a given book of the bible.

I haven‘t tried it yet but it sounds like you “get” what I’m referring to. It’s incredibly valuable.

And yes I understand about “crippling” a native set by “stealing” a book from it - a book can only exist as a part of one set at a time.
My intention is not to create a “best of” series, but rather to patch together multiple incomplete sets &/or books into a complete-Bible series.
I own more than enough Resources to do this multiple times.

Unfortunately, no. It is my understanding that the ability to do this on desktop is wrapped up into the index .db files, which does not happen in the same way on mobile.

That’s really unfortunate since I spend 3x more time on mobile than desktop - I even bought a new iPad just for this.
maybe they will see the value and find a way to make it work. Seems like downloading some small pointer files would be practical for Mobile, especially with the high processing and memory capabilities that are now prevalent.

It didn’t work for me with the word biblical commentary. Both were on “A.” Scrolling my Bible to other passages did not move the commentary.

The release notes - https://wiki.logos.com/iOS_Reader_9.2.0_$2812$29 - have:

Enable navigating between resources in a series from the Omnibox. For example, if you are in the Genesis commentary volume in a series and enter a passage from Romans, the application will navigate to the appropriate volume in the series if possible.

I'm not sure if this is when the series linking was introduced or just when support for Omnibox navigation was added.

Lurking this thread a year later -- thank you all for sorting this out. I was able to get it work on the latest Mac Desktop and iOS version as well by doing the "Set series for all" override. But I wouldn't have figured it out without this one thread.

Even though link set tracking will work across books of the series, I noticed it is important to open a matching commentary to the bible book the first time a new tab is opened. For example, I had Matthew open and tried PNTC Mark and the link follow tracking wouldn't work. However in the same scenario with Matthew open, I opened NICNT Matthew then finally scrolling past Matthew 28 in the Bible, my other tab scrolled from NICNT Matthew 28 to PNTC Mark 1. Fantastic.
