Getting Ready to Buy Logos 10 for the 1st time - Please Advise
I am interested in purchasing Logos 10 for the 1st time. My goal is 95% individual Bible Study. I have looked at a few intros on YouTube etc. and I am also interested in things such as:
- Advanced Timeline
- Factbook
- Scripture Memorization
- Journaling
- Several versions of the Bible to compare
- Strongs Words and references
It seems like I could get this with the Standard Logos 10 package and then just purchase some additional Bibles to go with it - does that sound right?
I am considering Bronze and it seems I might need Bronze to get the advanced timeline.
One thing I noticed is once you buy a higher level package you pay about 80% to 90% of the original purchase price to upgrade so the higher level of a package you purchase the more it is going to cost you over time.
I am tempted to get the standard Logos 10 feature set with additional Bibles with the thought that if I love it I can upgrade in the future.
How does my logic sound?

To get all you are looking for then, yes, you would need Bronze. However, you might want to try getting the free Logos version and seeing how you get on. It wouldn't have the Advanced Timeline but worth checking it out as an option. This is currently available - for Logos 9 - at https://www.logos.com/product/194909/logos-9-basic It is expected that a free Logos 10-based version will be available towards the end of next month.

If I understand you correctly I don't think this is the case - but I'm not sure how you got your figures. Are you aware of dynamic pricing - where things you have purchased in a lower version are discounted (at a level) in higher verisons?

Sounds like a plan - but, as above, I'd recommend starting with the free version and going from there.

Just for clarification of Graham's 'discounted', let's say you buy Package A. Then later, you upgrade to the larger Package B. When paying for Package B, you only pay for the NEW books or features ... anything you already have isn't charged a second time.
But adding to Graham, normally I'd agree ... get the free one and see how it sits. But if you have plenty of time, with Logos, I'd get the one you want. Test drive it, and then if it's not quite your cup of tea, refund it (30 days). Faithlife is quite nice about it.

If this is a concern about Books (not Features) you always have the choice to upgrade or not e.g. from Logos 9 to Logos 10. I am nominally a Standard Silver package person because the Gold level does not interest me, but I have chosen not to upgrade to L10 Silver from L9 Silver as the choice of books is not appealing. The denominational packages at different levels may appeal to you.
I usually purchase the Full Feature Set but have chosen the L10 Silver Features because I do not require the additional Features or Interlinears of L10 Full (the Interlinears are dead weight in your installation unless you need them and buy the associated Bibles).

L10 Bronze Features would be good for you. You can still consider the denominational packages (Books) at different levels for Bibles and/or Bible Dictionaries and Encyclopedias if you do not have a good selection of these. You don't have to wait too long for good commentary sets to be discounted (if that is your interest), but buying a package now will often be cheaper.

I'll just make a couple of remarks...
Scripture Memorisation is a nightmare with Logos. When you are checking three or four versions of the Bible how do you remember which form of words to memorise? Best learn the original languages and memorise them - once that is done you can do the translation on the fly as you quote.
Strongs Words and references will be of limited value once you start using logos. Strong is really yesterdays man.

For scripture memorization.... I suggest downloading "Remember Me" on your phone. I use it every day. It is free.... just add scriptures of your translation and go. I believe it works on Apple and Android.

If you decide to get the free version and add bibles:
1. Don't forget to add your birthday to your Faithlife profile so that you can receive a $20 coupon in your birthday month each year.
2. Instead of purchasing bibles individually, check out these Bible Bundles that Faithlife offers. They come with different combinations of translations so you can get a mix of the type of bibles you want.
You can do everything you mentioned with the free version except use the Advanced Timeline, so I'd recommend that you start at the free level. Logos will always go on sale again so don't worry about missing the current launch sale. It's important that you start where you are and build from there as you decide you want to do more things with Logos. The free version can help you learn the software without being overwhelmed with all the other bells and whistles. There will always be more sales. If you miss one, just catch the next one.
Also, for scripture memory I'd just use Passage Lists and review the verses/passages on my mobile app instead of the desktop app. I find the passage lists on the mobile app to be better formatted for prayer and memorization than the desktop app.

Go for it, Steve. Bronze is a good starting point for someone who doens't need the original language tools.
If you find it as useful as I have, you can then upgrade to higher levels as you go. You'll get additional discount for the books you already purchased in Bronze, so that works out very economically. Over the years I've purchased multiple base packages in every version going back to Logos 4. For example, I've bought 7 of the Logos 10 packs so far: Academic Pro, Verbum Academic Pro, and various smaller packs from Starter to Bronze because they contained specific books I was after.
It's only as you use Logos that you can discover how useful it will be for you, so please to dive in with Bronze. We'll look forward to hearing how you went.
