Word Find and Replace Syntax Help

I am trying to add Ezekiel to the beginning of each verse in the lines. Eventually I want to add milestones to the document. There is a paragraph marker at the end of each verse so I thought I would search for paragraph marker and then any number followed by a colon and then replace find what text with Ezekiel but I can't seem to come up with the right syntax. Once the document has Ezekiel in front of chapter and verse I can then add milestones for a personal book commentary.

Edit: I see what you are trying to do now.

Click "more", turn on "use wildcards" and copy and paste these:

Find: ^13([0-9]{1,2}):(<[0-9]{1,3}>)

Replace: ^13Ezekiel \1:\2

If you want to add the milestones now, just use ^13[[@Bible:Ezekiel \1:\2]]Ezekiel \1:\2 instead.

John, if you are just copying the whole text of Ezekiel, have you considered just selecting the style "One Verse Per Line (Full Reference) from the Copy Bible Verse tool (ctrl+alt+b on PC) when you put it into Word in the first place? That seems easier than going through and removing the word "Ezekiel" from other paragraphs.

If for some reason that doesn't work, go to the Replace menu, and type ^p into the Find what box, and then ^pEzekiel into the Replace with box.

What if the commentary has 4:13-14 or 14:2-4 or 16:13-14. What would the find and replace syntax be for those numbers for the book of Ezekiel? Should my strategy should be the largest numbers first and then the smallest numbers last?

My syntax should find one or two digit numbers for the chapter and one, two, or three digit numbers for the verse (I couldn't recall immediately if Ezekiel has any really long chapters). Ranges shouldn't matter because 4:13-14 becomes Ezekiel 4:13-14.

Find: ^13([0-9]{1,2}):(<[0-9]{1,3}>)

^13 is a paragraph break. The next part is in parentheses, which labels it as match section 1 so we can use it again in the replace portion. In that bracket, we look for any number [0-9] with 1 to 2 digits {1,2}. The colon has to match, and then we look for our second section, a 1-3 digit number.

Replace: ^13Ezekiel \1:\2

This creates a paragraph, adds the word Ezekiel, then puts the contents of the first set of parenthesis, colon, the second set of parenthesis. There are other ways to do it that might go slightly faster, but this is what made sense to me.

Yes it does put Ezekiel in front of all the references but next is the milestone marking which misses verse ranges that have a dash and two digits.

I want [[@Bible Ezekiel 4:12-15]] and [[@Bible Ezekiel 4:9-11]]

Try this for find:

^13([0-9]{1,2}:[0-9]*)^s

And this for replace:

^13[[@Ezekiel \1]]Ezekiel \1^s

It will look for a new paragraph, a one or two digit number followed by a colon, and then followed by another number and anything else until a space. It saves the verse range as \1 (I am not really sure why I did it as two separate things before).The space is outside of the parenthesis because we do not want it in our milestone marker. This works in my test.
