Text Comparison only searching FIRST BOOK in Collection

When I use text comparison, Logos is only searching the first book in the selected collection. For example, I made the collection "DSS" consisting of Dead Sea Scrolls texts -- 262 books. When I try to do a text comparison on Gen 3:12 using my DSS collection, it has no results, saying "1QIsaA does not contain “Genesis 3:12.” Please set a book with this passage as the first book." 1QIsaA is alphabetically the first book in the DSS collection. From the screenshot you can clearly see that Gen 3:12 is present in 1Q1 Genesis, which is in the DSS collection that I'm searching. What gives?

I'm on v. 23.1, by the way.

The first book in a Collection automatically becomes the Base for the comparison.  As 1QIsaA does not contain the Genesis passage you will get that message.

In the tool, you will have to choose:

    • 1Q1 Genesis  followed by
    • DSS collection

and then it will compare other books that have the Genesis passage.

Thanks for the reply! Is this really the only way to get text comparison to search the entire collection? That only works if I already know that the verse is in a particular book so that I can select that one. There are 19 Genesis scrolls in that collection; I don't know what verses from Genesis are in which scroll. There are 21 Isaiah scrolls, 30 Deuteronomy scrolls, etc.

The big reason I liked text comparison in older versions of Logos is that it made using the Dead Sea Scrolls so much easier.

Based on your advice I figured out a workaround by first selecting the BHS (which will always have any verse from the Hebrew Bible), then selecting my DSS collection. But man, that's kind of annoying. I wish it would just search the entire collection, regardless of what the first (alphabetical) book in that collection is.

Your workaround is excellent. In theory, TC could search the collection for a match and then use that as the Base, but it would be random and unsatisfactory as you might prefer a different Base.
