Popular Quotes

I watched the recent webinar about using illustrations. Great stuff!

The closing few minutes showed a feature i'd never seen nor even heard about before: Popular Quotes. It's a database of more than 1 million quotes indexed and searchable by topics and by authors. (Available in Logos 10 Silver and above). This is a killer feature!

HOWEVER: It is ONLY available from within the Sermon Builder Tool. Now that the work is done and this incredible feature exists, Logos really needs to pull it out of Sermon Builder so it can be accessed directly in the Desktop App. In a perfect world, it would also be available as a Tool on the Mobile App.

I totally agree! Same goes for the Q&A tool. Both should be made available as standalone tools outside of the Sermon Builder, in desktop and ideally also on mobile and the web app.

Does anyone know if a Feedbear suggestion has already been created for this?

A Search Card within ALL Search handles Popular Quotations:-

    • Returns quotes from library resources along with links to open the book to the relevant location, or to open the Factbook to an entry on that author. Logos Help. (2022). Faithlife.

Note that it will return quotes from outside your Library.

I would agree that it would be very nice to have this database accessible outside of Sermon Builder. I hope FL will consider this for a future release.

I totally agree! Same goes for the Q&A tool.

It is available as a search for label:answer with a topic or question that matches a limited set of Answers e.g. answer:(question:"9. Who was Deborah?" AND topic:topic:Barak AND topic:topic:Judge)  from "4000 Questions & Answers on the Bible".

It can appear a little more intelligent if you ask  answer:question:"who was Deborah?"

label:answer will list the resources available to you and this link will point to Logos Help.

It is also available as a Search Card in ALL Search, but it is quirky  e.g. A search for Deborah does not produce a Q&A Card, but has lots of info whilst a search for Barak will have a Q&A Card on Deborah!

    Dave,

What you say is true. However, only the Popular Quotes Database allows you to search ONLY for quotes and to do so by Topic and/or by Author. Using the search Tool for an ALL search doesn't do what the Popular Quotes Tool in Sermon Builder does. The Search Tool is great if you want a quote that answers a question and for searching resources, but that is not the same as the power and flexibility offered in the Popular Quotes Database available ONLY inside Sermon Builder. Logos should free this tool from it's shackles and let it run free in the sunlight of the Tools section available everywhere.

In addition, the Popular Quotes Database has more than 1 Million quotes in it and is not in any way limited by what resources you own. It's its own entity and does not search your resources, just the built in Popular Quotes Database (Logos 10 Silver and above).

Now that I found it in Sermon Builder, it would indeed be valuable as a universal Tool. You should support this suggestion.

Thanks, Dave! I did not know this was available. I voted for it. I hope many others also vote.

Wow, I just created a dummy sermon to try out the Popular Quotes tool. It seems very responsive and powerful. I'm going to keep that dummy sermon open until this becomes its own independent tool (would be nice if it's one of those skinny tools like Info, Lookup, CitedBy, etc that can be docked on a side panel).
